NC House Speaker Thom Tillis Runs From NC NAACP President William Barber

Published on Apr 9, 2013

April 9th, 2013 - After spending time talking to other citizens, North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis runs to avoid having to speak to NAACP President William J. Barber, II for the second time in one day. When the News & Observer asked about the first escape, the Speaker's office said that "Tillis and Barber spoke later in the day when they crossed paths on the third floor of the legislative building". The NAACP responded to that statement by calling it an "outright lie". This is the video record of that third floor "meeting" as outlined below:
0:22 While Speaker Tillis converses with other citizens, Rev. Barber can be seen getting off the elevator and receiving a hug.
0:38 Rev. Barber calls to Speaker Tillis (twice).
0:45 Videographer Eric Preston continuously asks the Tillis why he won't speak with Rev. Barber until the Speaker disappears into his office.
