Exmore-Willis Wharf Elementary School, fourth grade thru the sixth, Front view of the long closed Exmore - Willis Wharf school. The county let the building sit vacant for so long that the entire roof collapsed. To my knowledge, it was only AFTER the roof collapsed that they decided to try to sell it.... this is after a new school was built beside it. The new school was built with money from the lottery, instead of adding on to the building they just built a new school and allow the old school to fall apart.

Talking about a waste of state resources, the old Exmore-Willis Wharf school could have been apart of the new school; it could have been turn into a senior citizens center, yet the state dept.of education just let it sit there and rot..

I went to EWWS from 1960 to 1964. Lived in Exmore. Remembered doing plays on the stage there. Sad to see the school falling apart.

I went to school at EWWS from 1963-69. Great playground with swings, a slide, and monkey bars. All surrounded by a corn field. Mark Twain could not have written a more ideal place to grow up. The local boys from Exmore had some great touch football games on the playground and we used to play kickball until the bell sounded. I remember all those guys like it was yesterday. Here is a shout out to Tony, Stephen, Johnny, and Kevin. We were the original gang from the Sand Lot (the movie). Loved the auditorium especially for the Ruritan Review. My late dad, Luther High, played the harmonica. My brother and I sang the Bloody Red Baron song. Play it on youtube to remember those days. Great teachers...Mrs Smith, Mrs. James, and Mrs. Savage were the best!
