NEW BERN - The Craven County NAACP Branch, the NC State Conference of Branches and some of its 150 coalition partners will hold a News Conference, Friday morning at 11:00 AM at Tryon Palace, 610 Pollock St., New Bern, NC.
NC NAACP State Conference President, Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II., will announce plans for the 20th Moral Monday, which will be held at Kafer Park, 603 George Street, New Bern at 4:00 PM on Monday, October 21st. Dr. Barber and leaders of the New Bern area Forward Together Movement will address the Moral Monday participants.
"We are approaching the season of Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas - which should be a time of joy and grace. But this year, Gov. McCrory and his tea party group have given over 500,000 North Carolina families a New Year's Day gift of stripping them of health insurance and over 100,000 families who are out of work a similar gift, stripping them of their unemployment insurance."
"We are in a moral struggle for the soul of our state," said Dr. Barber. "We call for Gov. McCrory to convene a Special Redemption Session of the General Assembly. At the grass roots level we will continue to organize local Moral Monday Witnesses, spread our messages of alarm at the mean public policies being hatched in Raleigh and the need to build a movement of Good Will across the state."
