NC Democratic Party's weekly “Priority Watch”

Governor Bev Perdue this week vetoed four more bills.  Senate Bill 532 got the red ink stamp to defend the workers and businesses of North Carolina.  The bill would have raised unemployment taxes on various businesses from 0.8% to 6.2%.  The remaining three bills - SB 496, SB 781, SB 709 - were unconstitutional.

And below is a message from Governor Perdue regarding the Fourth of July Weekend:

“People across the state are headed out on the road to visit friends, family and loved ones for the 4th of July. As you enjoy the long weekend, I want to take a moment to ask you to please be safe while you celebrate. As part of my Highway Safety Program, our law enforcement officials will be working around the clock to keep our highways and communities safe. Be patient, slow down and please don’t drink and drive. When you get to your destination remember that we’ve had dry weather and drought conditions in many parts of the state, and our courageous firefighters have been tirelessly battling forest fires in many counties. So as you celebrate, please take care to avoid creating any fire hazards and leave the fireworks shows to the experts – there are a number of public displays for you and your family to enjoy. Have fun and enjoy the holiday weekend as we celebrate our nation’s birthday!”
