ORANGE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY ANNOUNCES
MARCH KID AND TEEN PROGRAMS
ORANGE COUNTY, NC (February 27, 2014)—Orange County Public Library (OCPL) invites youth of all ages to participate in a variety of free and fun activities in March. From LEGOs, storytimes, and science experiments, to gaming and crafts, there’s something for everyone!
The following events are all held at the OCPL Main Library at 137 W. Margaret Lane in Hillsborough, unless otherwise noted.
Teens Make: Sat., March 1, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Drop by the library any time between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to make a button that shows off your interests. Button-making will take place near the Teen Room on the second floor. For ages 13-18.
Movie Matinee: Sat., March 1, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Watch the latest installment in the battles of Asgardian brothers, Thor and Loki, on the big screen. Movies are free and open to everyone. Rated PG-13.
Kids Explore: Tues., March 4, 11, 18, and 25, 3:30 p.m.
This 45-minute interactive program for children ages 5-8 explores LEGOs, art, science, and literature.
Tweens Discover: Thurs., March 6, 13, 20, and 27, 3:30 p.m.
This 45-minute program for tweens ages 9-12 promotes discovery through LEGOs, art, science, and literature activities.
Teen Advisory Board (TAB) Meeting: Wed., March 12, 6:00 p.m.
The Orange County Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is made up of teen volunteers (ages 13-18) who are interested in being a part of the library’s programs and services aimed at a middle and high school aged audience. Learn more about TAB at www.orangecountync.gov/library/TAB.asp
Save the Planet with Science: Sat., March 15, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Women in Science and Engineering at UNC present hands-on experiments to learn about the importance of taking care of the environment inspired by the life of environmental activist and Nobel Prize-winner Wangari Maathai. For ages 7-13.
Game Day: Wed., March 19, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Get your game on! Bring your friends and come meet new ones as we play on the Wii, Xbox Kinect, and laptops or, try out a board game or card game. All ages are welcome; kids younger than 10 need an adult.
Teens Talk Books: Wed., March 26, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
This is not your grandma's book club. We won't tell you what to read - but we do want to know what YOU want to read! Come share what you've read and liked, or didn't like, and hear about the good, the bad and the ugly that other teens are reading. March theme: Characters dealing with tragedy.
OCPL Main Library Storytimes
- Baby Lapsit – Mondays at 10:00 a.m. – 20-minute program for babies and their caregivers that incorporates age-appropriate books, rhymes, music, and movement.
- Tiny Tots Storytime – Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. – 25-minute program for children from walkers to age three and their caregivers.
- Preschool Storytime – Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. – 30-minute program for children ages 3-5 and their caregivers.
- And join us for “Stay and Play” sessions after the Tiny Tots and Preschool morning storytimes. These free-play sessions offer educational toys, puppets and games to engage your child in early literacy learning and build social skills.
OCPL Carrboro Branch Storytime: Sat., March 8, 15, 22 and 29, 10:30 a.m.
Join our librarians for engaging stories and fun crafts on Saturday mornings. The OCPL Carrboro Branch is located inside McDougle Middle School at 900 Fayetteville Road in Chapel Hill.
