Petition: tell #NCGA to repeal the tax cuts that are costing NC
Friday, May 16, 2014
Representative Garland Pierce has a Petition concerning the #NCGA House Rules
Today, the General Assembly Republicans rushed to pass new rules in an attempt to silence the Moral Monday movement. Why the rush? Why were Republicans in such a hurry today?
The answer is because Monday, May 19th is rapidly approaching.
The new rules governing the North Carolina General Assembly building restrict where members of the public can gather, places arbitrary and inconsistent limitations on noise, and changes the definition of the building from a place of the public to a place for politicians.
Apparently North Carolinian’s exercising their right to free speech made some politicians uncomfortable. The Republicans have made it clear. Their only answer to the Moral Monday movement is to do nothing but try to silence those who disagree with them.
They also made it clear they plan to continue supporting an agenda that prioritizes special interests over working families. As a result, it is up to all of us to continue speaking up and holding them accountable. Please sign our petition today and forward to five friends to ensure that the Republican legislators continue to be held accountable for their actions.
Republicans can choose to engage in procedural tricks in an attempt to silence those who disagree with them, but we will continue to stand up and oppose an agenda that has time and again prioritized special interests over working families.
Until they begin to listen to the will of the citizens who elected them on important issues facing our state we will continue voicing or discontent. Please stand with us today by signing our petition and forwarding it on to five friends.
Sincerely,
Representative Garland Pierce
Chairman, NC Legislative Black Caucus
P.S. We intend to make it clear to General Assembly Republicans that our voices will not be silenced by procedural tricks. Please stand with us today. Click here to sign our petition.

Petition to Raise NC Teachers Pay..
Dear Friends,
As I travel the state, it is clear that we are facing a true education crisis in North Carolina. Last year, Governor McCrory and his friends in the legislature cut another half billion dollars from local classrooms in order to pay for massive handouts for the wealthy, out-of-state corporations, and special interests. Now, teachers across North Carolina are forced to take second jobs or leave the state altogether just to make ends meet.
The plain fact is that our so-called “leaders” in Raleigh have failed our teachers. Currently, North Carolina ranks 46th in the nation in teacher pay, behind Virginia, Tennessee, and even South Carolina. This is wrong, and it is time to send a message to Governor McCrory and the politicians in Raleigh: we need a real plan to raise teacher pay to the national average.
Today, we begin the Spring Legislative Session here in Raleigh. This is the time to act. Join me to tell Governor McCrory and the Republicans that we need to raise teacher pay to the national average within four years.
I ask that you sign your name below, so we can send a clear message as we begin session: It’s time to stand with teachers, not special interests.
Thank you for your support,
Dan Blue

Poor Michele Bachmann, no one likes her anymore..
People For the American Way delivered a petition with 178,000 signatures to House Speaker John Boehner calling for the removal of Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Bachmann, one of Congress’ leading purveyors of conspiracy theories, earned rebukes from Boehner and others last year when she accused several Muslim-American government employees, include top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, of being secret agents of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Ok Michele its time to leave Congress while you can, before you get arrested for some your mouth gets you in to more hot water.. Ooops too later, every thing out of your mouth gets you in trouble..

The Anti-Protest Bill: How Congress Just Took Our Rights Away
|
In March, Congress passed HR 347, a bill that limits Americans' ability to protest in public and on government grounds. Mainstream media didn't raise peep, but now there's finally some anger building. The bill, passed almost unanimously, makes it a federal offense punishable by up to ten years in prison to "knowingly" protest in the vicinity of the Secret Service--that is anywhere the Secret Service "is or will be temporarily visiting."
It also makes many public events impervious to lawful protest. Any "National Security Special Event" (NSSE) requires Secret Service protection. NSSE-designated events have proliferated since 9/11 to include Super Bowls, concerts, campaign events, and now any public event that Very Important People want protest-free.
Most dangerously, it criminalizes protest. Under the bill, "disorderly or disruptive conduct" or activities that "impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions" could warrant felony charges. What constitutes such "disruptive conduct" rests in the eye of the beholder--or the eye of Eric Holder. To put it plainly: the government can decide where and when free speech is allowed and severely prosecute any "disruptive" activity, while we're confined to "free speech zones." We can help fix it, however! Join our petition below to protect our speech rights!
PETITION TO CONGRESS: We treasure our first amendment rights of free speech and public assembly! HR 347 limits valid arenas of peaceful public protest, and broadens the government's ability to curtail civil liberties. We demand that Congress amend the bill to provide clearer language as to what constitutes "disruptions"; to allow for reasonable, peaceful protest at NSSEs and around Secret Service; and to ensure that no peaceful protest can ever be deemed a felony.
