Dear Friends,
As I travel the state, it is clear that we are facing a true education crisis in North Carolina. Last year, Governor McCrory and his friends in the legislature cut another half billion dollars from local classrooms in order to pay for massive handouts for the wealthy, out-of-state corporations, and special interests. Now, teachers across North Carolina are forced to take second jobs or leave the state altogether just to make ends meet.
The plain fact is that our so-called “leaders” in Raleigh have failed our teachers. Currently, North Carolina ranks 46th in the nation in teacher pay, behind Virginia, Tennessee, and even South Carolina. This is wrong, and it is time to send a message to Governor McCrory and the politicians in Raleigh: we need a real plan to raise teacher pay to the national average.
Today, we begin the Spring Legislative Session here in Raleigh. This is the time to act. Join me to tell Governor McCrory and the Republicans that we need to raise teacher pay to the national average within four years.
I ask that you sign your name below, so we can send a clear message as we begin session: It’s time to stand with teachers, not special interests.
Thank you for your support,
Dan Blue
