Ann Romney must have blinders on, not to notice the War on Women by the GOP.

150276505JS027_PRESIDENTIALAnn Romney recently total bull shit statement to women,

Women, you need to wake up. Women have to ask themselves who's going to have and be there for you. I can promise you, I know, that Mitt will be there for you. He will stand up for you, he will hear your voices.

Ann need to take off her rose color glasses.

I guess she has been living in a cave too.

We have watched the Republicans fight to take away women health care, make major cuts to Domestic Violence programs and block bills that would have give women equal pay for equal work..

Now Ann wants the women of the US to Vote for her husband by stating that he will be there for them, yeah right. Well, maybe if they give him very large checks..

help to combat the misinformation campaign from NC's billboard industry, which apparently is trying to "save the planet" by cutting down trees: https://secure3.convio.net/nccn/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=801

the billboard industry spokesman recently spoke at an Asheville public hearing on rules regarding tree removal near billboards in NC. He was absolutely serious when he stated that trees cause global warming, air pollution, and make droughts worse.

NC NAACP supports decision to remove Tata

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

26 September 2012

For More Information: Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II President, 919-394-8137

Mrs. Amina J. Turner, Executive Director, 919-682-4700

The North Carolina NAACP always espouses one consistent vision for education: every child must be provided a high-quality, well-funded, constitutional, diverse public education.  To this end our eight educational principles are:

  • Stop resegregation and promote diversity
  • Provide equity in funding for all schools
  • Provide high quality teachers and smaller classrooms
  • Provide high quality leadership teams
  • Provide high quality facilities
  • Focus on math, science, reading and history
  • Support parental and community involvement
  • Address unjust and disproportionate suspensions and reduce dropout rates and increase graduation rates among African-American and other minority students

We are hopeful that the Wake County school board and the future superintendent will stand for these fundamental principles, which are rooted in the North Carolina and US Constitutions, educational best practices, proven research and our moral traditions, to build the hopes and educate the minds of all our precious children.

The North Carolina NAACP and its friends and allies in the faith community commend the Wake County Board of Education for the poise and grace with which they handled the difficult issues raised by Brig. Gen. Anthony Tata's performance as Superintendent of the Wake County Public School System.  As is the case with the rest of the public, because this is a confidential personnel matter, we do not know all the factors that went into this decision and cannot speak for the board.  We do know leadership is important. If any school system, business or organization is not functioning at its fullest potential and carrying out the best practices towards the fulfillment of its primary mission and vision--leadership must be held accountable by the governing board.

During his tenure we did try to reach out to former Superintendent Tata and we acknowledge that he did meet with us despite our noted educational policy disagreements.  We respect Brig. Gen. Tata as a person, public servant and wish him Godspeed. We now urge everyone to focus on the needs of our children, our families, our teachers and our schools as we go forward.

Yours in the Spirit of Truth and Justice,

Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President, North Carolina NAACP

Dr. Tim Tyson, Education Chair, North Carolina NAACP

Mr. Charles Upchurch, President, Wendell-Wake Branch of the NAACP

Rev. Dr. Portia Rochelle, President, Raleigh-Apex Branch of the NAACP

Rev. Dr. Earl Johnson, Pastor, Martin Street Baptist Church, President of the Raleigh Wake Citizens Association (RWCA)

Rev. Dr. Nancy Petty, Pastor, Pullen Memorial Baptist Church

MEDIA RELEASE: North Carolina workers share experiences of wage theft

Workers describe working conditions, redress obstacles following underpayment, nonpayment of wages

RALEIGH (September 25, 2012) – Wage theft – an employer’s underpayment or nonpayment of wages to workers who have earned those wages – has severe financial consequences for workers, according to a new report that puts faces on the rampant instances of wage and hour violations in low-wage industries across the state.

Ten Triangle-area workers share their own experiences of wage theft in a report co-released by the North Carolina Justice Center and the UNC Immigration/Human Rights Policy Clinic. In a series of in-depth interviews conducted from January to April 2012, participants from a diverse set of low-wage industries shared their stories, illustrating how workers – as well as their families and local economies – suffer when they are not paid earned wages.

“While each worker’s story is unique, common themes emerged from the interviews,” said Sabine Schoenbach, a Policy Analyst with the Workers’ Rights Project at the NC Justice Center and co-author of the report. “For all participants, wage theft created economic uncertainty, and even small wage violations had significant financial consequences. Moreover, serious barriers to redress, including the threat of retaliation, existed.”
