NC NAACP's Brief Challenges Latest Extremist Attack on Our Children, Cites the Ugly History of Vouchers as a Strategy for Impeding Integrated, Well-Funded Public Schools

RALEIGH - On the birthday of Lincoln and the NAACP, the NC NAACP filed a brief in Wake County Court challenging the constitutionality of the extremists' new school voucher program. This program was passed last year as part of a regressive attack on public school teachers and county school systems. It will transfer $11 million from public schools to a fund that will give $4200 in taxpayer dollars to a small proportion of students whose parents want to enroll their kids in private schools.

NC NAACP supports decision to remove Tata

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

26 September 2012

For More Information: Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II President, 919-394-8137

Mrs. Amina J. Turner, Executive Director, 919-682-4700

The North Carolina NAACP always espouses one consistent vision for education: every child must be provided a high-quality, well-funded, constitutional, diverse public education.  To this end our eight educational principles are:

  • Stop resegregation and promote diversity
  • Provide equity in funding for all schools
  • Provide high quality teachers and smaller classrooms
  • Provide high quality leadership teams
  • Provide high quality facilities
  • Focus on math, science, reading and history
  • Support parental and community involvement
  • Address unjust and disproportionate suspensions and reduce dropout rates and increase graduation rates among African-American and other minority students

We are hopeful that the Wake County school board and the future superintendent will stand for these fundamental principles, which are rooted in the North Carolina and US Constitutions, educational best practices, proven research and our moral traditions, to build the hopes and educate the minds of all our precious children.

The North Carolina NAACP and its friends and allies in the faith community commend the Wake County Board of Education for the poise and grace with which they handled the difficult issues raised by Brig. Gen. Anthony Tata's performance as Superintendent of the Wake County Public School System.  As is the case with the rest of the public, because this is a confidential personnel matter, we do not know all the factors that went into this decision and cannot speak for the board.  We do know leadership is important. If any school system, business or organization is not functioning at its fullest potential and carrying out the best practices towards the fulfillment of its primary mission and vision--leadership must be held accountable by the governing board.

During his tenure we did try to reach out to former Superintendent Tata and we acknowledge that he did meet with us despite our noted educational policy disagreements.  We respect Brig. Gen. Tata as a person, public servant and wish him Godspeed. We now urge everyone to focus on the needs of our children, our families, our teachers and our schools as we go forward.

Yours in the Spirit of Truth and Justice,

Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President, North Carolina NAACP

Dr. Tim Tyson, Education Chair, North Carolina NAACP

Mr. Charles Upchurch, President, Wendell-Wake Branch of the NAACP

Rev. Dr. Portia Rochelle, President, Raleigh-Apex Branch of the NAACP

Rev. Dr. Earl Johnson, Pastor, Martin Street Baptist Church, President of the Raleigh Wake Citizens Association (RWCA)

Paul Coble on Voter ID, Claims this isn’t apart of his campaign for Office.

The Wake County Board of Commissioners (thanks to Coble) will take up a resolution at this Monday’s meeting in support of the Voter ID bill (House Bill 351).

The County Commissioner’s meeting is scheduled for 2:00pm today on the 7th floor of the Wake County Courthouse. If you want to sound off, the public comment period runs from 2:30pm to 3:00pm.

It is very clear that Paul “I want to like my late Uncle” Coble is using his Wake County Commissioner office as an extension of his Campaign for the Republican nomination for the 13th congressional district seat in congress.

The Republican pass the Voter ID bill, but Governor Perdue VETO it, the  republican control NCGA failed to override it. So, little bigoted jerks like Coble seeks to help them on the county level.

even the watch dogs of our local Government knows what Coble is doing,

“The Wake County Board of Commissioners is back at the business of interfering in state-level matters (and providing a free platform for Commissioner Paul Coble to run for Congress),” Policy Watch staffer Rob Schofield said in the group’s blog, “The Progressive Pulse.”

Wake County Pass it Marriage Resolution 4 to 3

Wake County commissioners have just endorsed Amendment One, the forthcoming ballot item which amends the state constitution to state that the only domestic legal union that is valid or recognized in North Carolina is marriage between one man and one woman.

How nice to Wake County Commissioner the LGBT community is nothing more than unheard taxpayers with no rights or a voice..

The vote came along party lines, with Republicans Paul Coble, Tony Gurley, Phil Matthews and Joe Bryan supporting the motion and Democrats Erv Portman, James West and Betty Lou Ward opposing it.

What I want to know is why @PaulCobleNC prevented a roll call vote. This what I want to know.

However our very own Christian Lobbyist did you her job, she was the only one who spoke for the resolution..

"There's a lot of more voters in wake county support this amendment than the handful of activists in this room," said Fitzgerald, a registered lobbyist for several Christian and family causes.

Well  Ms Christian Bitch Fitzgerald, we will see if your are correct in May.. What will you little group for bigots do if we vote this Amendment down and then get the law overturn.. If this happen there will be nothing you can do then..

Many believe the only reason Paul Coble brought this motion is because he is in the GOP Primary for Congress… He is seeking a higher office…

the votes (not for sure, just a guess)

We would guess the vote was: Coble, Matthews, Gurley, Bryan - FOR. Ward, West, Portman - AGAINST. #WakeResolution Will confirm soon.

Wake County Resolution supporting Amendment one

RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF VOTER PARTICIPATION IN THE MAY 8, 2012 VOTE
TO AMEND THE NORTH CAROLINA CONSTITUTION PROTECTING MARRIAGE
WHEREAS, in 1995 the North Carolina legislature enacted NCGS 51-1.2, which
states that Marriages, whether created by common law, contracted, or performed
outside of North Carolina, between individuals of the same gender are not valid in North
Carolina; and

WHEREAS, the United States Congress enacted 1 USCS Section 7, which
states “In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling, regulation,
or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United
States, the word "marriage" means only a legal union between one man and one
woman as husband and wife, and the word "spouse" refers only to a person of the
opposite sex who is a husband or a wife”; and

WHEREAS, in 2011 the North Carolina General Assembly allowed the people of
this great State the right to vote on whether or not to amend the North Carolina
Constitution to preserve marriage as the legal union of one man and one woman; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina is the only state in the South that has not protected
marriage in its constitution; and

County and North Carolina to voice their opinion by exercising their right to vote; and

When your Party Loses, make sure you Blame Obama

Wake County GOP Chairwoman Susan Bryant blames "President Obama's national organization" for last week's election results that could lead to Democrats regaining control of the county school board.

Yes this very delusion piece of crap, wants to blame Obama for their loses in the most recent election in Wake County. I guess it had nothing to do with the lies and sorry ass jobs that they were doing.. it also had nothing to do with the group’s sick ideology.

2"Make no mistake!" Bryant writes in a GOP newsletter this week. "President Obama's national organization was very much involved in the recent elections, with particular emphasis on Ron Margiotta's and Heather Losurdo's campaigns. They hired 'volunteers' and spent tens of thousands on mailers cleverly disguised as coming from non-related groups."

Please cry me a damn river..
