We have a state full of people out there that don't even know we're doing this. And let me tell you what I think you're doing to them. I think the provision having to do with ambulatory care centers is going to do away with health care as we know it for women who need help. And there are going to be more of them, not less of them. When you force these things in the ambulatory surgical centers, planned parenthood has four centers in the state -- none of them comply. Out of business. Nobody told us that in committee. I scurried around and got that information myself. That crowd that is going to descend on you when you get back down here is going to know it. It is a frontal attack on these facilities that offer women's health care to women -- things they need, mammograms, etc.

Mark Herring hope to Protect Va’s Women’s Health with new Legislation
I need your help on this. Right now, speak out and show that Virginians support women's health. We need to make clear that we support a woman's right to choose. We have to make it known that we reject extremist policies that endanger women.
In less than 24 hours, I'll be in the Capitol presenting this bill to my colleagues. Telling them I have you on my side will go a long way to helping fight back against Cuccinelli.
I need them to see the public is on the side of women. Help me do that.

We almost couldn’t believe it. Today, at a House Oversight Committee hearing, House Republicans convened a panel on denying access to birth control converge with five men and no women. As my colleague Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney asked, where are the women?
Join me in our call to Speaker Boehner, Eric Cantor, Chairman Issa and all House Republicans to demand that women be brought to the table when discussing women’s health issues.
Help us gather 50,000 signatures before Congress heads home tomorrow.

CHAIRMAN PARKER: WOMEN'S RIGHTS VETERANS WILL FIGHT AGAIN
RALEIGH - North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman David Parker warned Republican legislators that they should expect fierce outcry from women who fought the women's rights struggles of the 20th century, only to see their gains narrowed by the passage of HB854, the "Women's Right to Know" Act.
"Sixty-, seventy- and eighty-year-old women are ready and willing to fight the battles of their youth all over again if that's what it takes to secure their granddaughters health and reproductive freedom. Republicans have woken a massive bloc of the voting population with this law. The women who fought this bigotry in their twenties will do it again in their seventies; that means voting Democratic in 2012."
"This General Assembly has been merciless in their attacks on women, if it's this bill or the firing of female educators. Pat McCrory and the Republicans cannot put the genie back in the bottle, women can vote, women can run, and they won't forget."
Parker thinks this law unfairly singles out women for government intervention in their most private health decisions.
"Show me a law that commands government counseling for men in any medical situation. I doubt a bill enforcing a waiting period for Viagra would go very far in this Republican legislature."
North Carolina Republicans have chipped away at the gains made by every popular movement of the 20th century, from civil rights to women's rights to voting rights-- and they have done it after winning an election they claimed was about jobs.
"It wasn't about jobs, it was about social control."

NC women Reproductive freedom apparently is in the hands of one man
As reported by Laura Leslie of WRAL and others, it appears that the basic reproductive freedoms of North Carolina women (freedoms like the right not have your decisions about your body interfered with by the man who raped and forcibly impregnated you) are likely in the hands of one person — Wake County Senator Richard Stevens.

Put the Pressure On to Protect Choice in NC!
The North Carolina House of Representatives could vote as early as Monday to override Gov. Bev Perdue’s veto of H.B.854, the “Women Know Nothing” act. As you know, if her veto is not sustained, this dangerous legislation would become law, making it even more difficult to access abortion services in our state.

Tillis and Samuelson is mad over Veto
But House Speaker Thom Tillis called the veto a "disappointment:":
“Governor Perdue’s over-eager veto pen has struck again, showcasing the latest disappointment in a record-setting string of vetoes this year. Good policies continue to be met with hostility in the Governor’s office, and that is unfortunate for the people of North Carolina.”
And the bill's chief sponsor, House Majority Whip Ruth Samuelson, R-Mecklenburg, said the veto runs counter to Perdue's voting record as a state lawmaker:
“We are now in a minority of states that require no special informed consent for abortion and that is shameful, especially with a female governor. Having come this far in leadership, Gov. Perdue should have even greater respect for the ability of women to make careful choices when given adequate information. Yet, she made no attempt to work with us in this effort to make abortion safer and rarer, a goal even many abortion advocates support.
"While in the state senate, Gov. Perdue routinely voted against funding for abortion, then as governor she vetoes legislation that provides women the information they need when faced with that same procedure. Unfortunately, it’s just further evidence that Gov. Perdue is more interested in keeping her title than maintaining the principles she voiced as a legislator.”
These two crack pots need to be voted out of office asap. Tillis, sorry to tell you that man should never be allow to tell a women what she can and can’t do about Her body and her rights.. Ruth you are out of touch period..
Women whom chose to have a abortion, doesn’t need the damn gov’t up in her business, these women are not stupid, for most part, this is a very hard choice, for many women to make. In most cases the choice is made after days of thinking about it.. So Tillis and Ruth get with the times and leave women’s rights to abortion the hell alone..

NC House passes HB 854 - 24 hour waiting period on abortions
Despite that passionate argument, the majority passed the bill passed 71-48.
Guilford County Rep. Alma Adams told her colleagues the legislature would never single out a medical procedure affecting only men, and that this bill “frightens, shames, and torments” women who have made an already difficult choice.
Mecklenburg County Rep. Ruth Samuelson argued her bill would keep abortions legal, safe, and “more rare.”
Cumberland County Rep. Rick Glazier, one of the few men to speak during the two hour debate, said the bill should be seen for what it is:
