Exmore-Willis Wharf Elementary School

Exmore-Willis Wharf Elementary School, fourth grade thru the sixth, Front view of the long closed Exmore - Willis Wharf school. The county let the building sit vacant for so long that the entire roof collapsed. To my knowledge, it was only AFTER the roof collapsed that they decided to try to sell it.... this is after a new school was built beside it. The new school was built with money from the lottery, instead of adding on to the building they just built a new school and allow the old school to fall apart.

Talking about a waste of state resources, the old Exmore-Willis Wharf school could have been apart of the new school; it could have been turn into a senior citizens center, yet the state dept.of education just let it sit there and rot..

Equality NC Names Alex Miller Interim Executive Director

Remember I post this first before the announcement,

We are pleased to announce that Alex Miller, a former Equality NC lobbyist with extensive experience advocating for pro-lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) legislation, will serve as the organization's interim executive director, beginning July 5.

As a former Infantry Squad Leader in the U.S. Army, and now an accomplished political consultant, Alex is no stranger to hard-fought battles or significant victories, including those for the LGBT community. He coordinated Equality North Carolina’s trailblazing legislative campaign that culminated in the historic passage of the School Violence Prevention Act in 2009. At the same time, Alex also served as the statewide LGBT advocacy organization’s primary lobbyist and led all coalition advocacy, research and communications efforts.

 

Following his legislative triumphs with Equality NC, Alex went on to successfully manage one of the most competitive North Carolina General Assembly campaigns in the tough 2010 political season, helping pro-equality legislator Rep. Rick Glazier of Cumberland County win re-election. He comes to us as an experienced contract lobbyist at the North Carolina General Assembly with a history of orchestrating significant legislative wins for a variety of causes.

 

Alex is the right person at the right time for Equality NC: an experienced pro-LGBT and equality advocate returning to the organization as we prepare to lead the charge against North Carolina’s proposed anti-LGBT constitutional amendment. In the coming months, he'll bring his legislative and political knowledge to ENC's already committed team of staff, interns and volunteers as we mobilize our statewide network of supporters and bring the full resources of the organization to bear in our effort to secure justice for all LGBT North Carolinians.

NC DREAM Team Urges Veto on HB 36
Legislators motivated by prejudice, not policy

Harassing a working population within the borders of our state will do nothing to benefit North Carolina residents. The economic livelihood of our state is tied to the freedom of everyone in it—not just citizens—to work freely and gainfully.

Governor Perdue should veto this bill. Short-sighted bills like HB 36 demonstrate why immigration is a federal prerogative—not one to be considered by the states. Legislators who support this bill are motivated by a prejudiced and tribalistic attitude rather than the desire to craft thoughtful legislation that matches the economic needs of our state.

“They are motivated by prejudice, not policy,” said Alicia Torres, a member of the NC DREAM Team. “They are either prejudice or grossly oversimplifying the issue.”

This bill will do nothing to improve the economic livelihood of our state and criminalize a class of people for doing nothing but attempting to live out their lives peacefully.

By voting against the DREAM Act, Senator Kay Hagan added her name to the list of Democrats who have betrayed immigration advocates. Unless Perdue would like to join her, she should veto HB 36.

Midnight Madness Attempts to Undermine Democracy in Darkness:

NC NAACP/HKonJ Initial Analysis of the 2011 General Assembly Legislative Session

As this historic and destructive legislative session begins to wrap up we reflect on the many harmful bills that have poured out of the General Assembly since January. Many of these regressive and harmful bills have been passed and sent to the Governor. We call on Governor Perdue to stand strong and continue to veto any damaging bills that make their way to her desk. As we speak, many other harmful bills are still moving through the legislative process. We will continue to watch the General Assembly and speak out against any legislation that takes our state backwards rather than forwards.

The budget and bills of this session are a frontal attack on civil rights, economic justice and education. Their policies and legislation give a whole new meaning to ‘trickle down economics’ and turning back the clock. They believe in ‘holding down the poor’ economics, undermining civil rights and rooting their decisions in the politics of yesterday rather than going forward and working towards a more just society. African Americans, minorities, the unrepresented, the disenfranchised, the poor and the working people of North Carolina need to know: The people running the State Legislature in Raleigh are not working for the common good.

that right he robbed a bank to get access to health care, that he was deny by our nice friendly gov’t.

Verone didn’t want to scare anyone. He executed the robbery the most passive way he knew how. He handed the teller a note demanding one dollar, and medical attention. “I didn’t have any fears,” said Verone. “I told the teller that I would sit over here and wait for police.” The teller, however, did have some fears even though Verone never showed a weapon. Her blood pressure shot up and once Verone was handcuffed by police, the teller was taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital to be checked out. Verone said he was sorry for causing the woman any pain.

This is no way a Great Country like ours, should ever treat there senior citizens, where they need to commit a crime for a place to live, or to get medical treatment that they need in order to live.

This case arises from the beating of Ryan Young. In the early morning hours of June 11, 2009, Young was celebrating his birthday with friends at a local bar. Defendant was also at the bar. Young did not know defendant, but defendant joined Young and his friends at their table and defendant and Young talked and became acquainted. At about 3:30 a.m., Young and defendant were dropped off at Young's apartment. Young testified that he went into his bedroom to change and asked defendant: "did you want to do anything or did you just want to go to bed," to which defendant responded: "yeah, I'm going to do something you fucking faggot."

Young testified that defendant choked him "so bad" that he "could not get away from him" and Young thought he was going to die because defendant "wouldn't get off me and just stop punching me." Young believed that he was fighting for his life. Young remembered defendant cutting off his oxygen until he passed out and that, when he came to, defendant was "just still bashing my face in" until he went unconscious again. Young believed defendant hit him "a good 30 times." According to Young, he never tried to touch defendant and neither of them ever fell asleep-except when Young went unconscious from the assault. Young testified that there was no discussion about flipping the television on or anything and that he believed this was because defendant had the assault already planned.

It about time these judges get with the program and cut all this nonsense out…..
