1. Candlelight Vigil/Press Conference Spotlighting the Unemployed and Underemployed
This vigil will be a press conference that will call attention to the thousands of workers out of a job or underemployed and the struggles they face trying to get by and make ends meet. The press conference will include remarks by a minister from Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, a policy expert from NC Justice Center, an AFL-CIO officer, and an unemployed worker. The luminaries will be lit to represent all those workers who are struggling while state and federal lawmakers ignore the true crisis of JOBS. Details below:
When: Monday, October 10 (Columbus Day)
Where: Bicentennial Mall:16 W. Jones Street, Raleigh, NC (across the street from the NC General Assembly)
Time: 6:15pm - 7pm
Signs: Please do not bring any homemade signs. They will be provided.
2. Picket and Constituent Meeting: Renee Ellmers' Dunn Office
We will be targeting Rep. Renee Ellmers at her district office in Dunn again, making sure she hears the call for JOBS loud and clear! We will organize a picket and schedule a constituent meeting with her (or her staff) to bring this to her attention and demand action! If you live in her district and would like to be part of the group to go inside let me know. The details are below:
When: Thursday, October 13
Where: Ellmers' District Office:406 W. Broad St., Dunn, NC 28334
Time: 11am - 12pm: We are coordinating car-pools from the NC AFL-CIO office to leave at 10:15-10:30am.
Signs: Please do not bring any homemade signs. They will be provided. However, feel free to bring your sign from the Postal Service rally last Tuesday.
