Who really increased our National Debt??

Just to provide some perspective on the accusation that Obama spends like a college freshman who just got a credit card. It’s no wonder Republicans hate fact-checkers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ORANGE COUNTY, NC (May 29, 2013)—The Orange County Animal Services Department received its sixth positive rabies result of the year, from the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health. Last year, the County recorded 12 positive cases.

The case originated on Friday, May 24, when a resident and her dog were walking on the Eno River Trail in Durham.  Moments after hearing a noise from under a nearby tree, the two were aggressively approached by a raccoon.  The dog reacted defensively and was injured as a result of killing the raccoon. Since this happened on the Orange County side of the Eno trail, Orange County Animal Control responded and removed the raccoon for testing.

NCGA might tax your Social Security Checks next folks.

From WRAL.com, @NCCapitol,

The basic premise of reform is to cut the tax rate, then tax more things.

North Carolina is one of 35 states that doesn't tax Social Security benefits. Seniors and advocates have a message for Senate leaders: Please don't start now.

"There are a lot of rumors," said Doug Dickerson, who heads the state branch of the AARP. "Some of the ideas being tossed around are pretty scary if you're a senior."

One idea floating out of the state Senate would apply state tax to Social Security benefits for those who have supplemental income.

All these new taxes so Tillis and Berger can give NC wealthy more Tax break, while taxing the poor and middle more. When will the folks of NC Wake the Fuck up and see what they are doing our State!

This would be only fair, if they taxed their retirement funds from the state too. Hell, tax all retirement funds, 401k’s too..

North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services Completely Eliminated in Senate Budget, Replaced by Computers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

25 May 2013

For More Information:      Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, President, 919-394-8137

Mrs. Amina J. Turner, Executive Director, 919-682-4700

Atty. Jamie Phillips Cole, Public Policy Coordinator,

919-682-4700

The NC NAACP is disgusted with many parts of the Senate's proposed budget, such as cutting funds that benefit the youngest North Carolinians headed to Pre-K and K-12, millions of dollars of tax cuts for the wealthiest North Carolinians and attacks on Medicaid which affect all North Carolinians. In addition, one of the most blatantly unconstitutional parts of the Senate's budget is the complete defunding of North Carolina Prisoners Legal Services (NCPLS).

In Bounds v. Smith, 430 U.S, 817, 97 S.Ct. 1491 (1976), the United States Supreme Court, speaking through Justice Thurgood Marshall, decreed that the fundamental constitutional right of access to the courts required prison administrators to assist inmates in preparing and filing meaningful legal papers by providing prisoners with adequate legal assistance and libraries or the adequate assistance from persons trained in the law. This case involved a policy decision by the North Carolina Department of Corrections to create seven law libraries across the state to serve the legal needs of the state's inmate population. This plan would have allowed prisoners to use the libraries which would be stocked with a collection of law books, legal forms, writing paper, typewriters and the use of copying machines. The Supreme Court ruled that this plan violated the United States Constitution and the Department of Corrections was required to devise a constitutionally sound program to assure every inmate with access to the courts. In response, the North Carolina General Assembly decided to contract with the NCPLS to provide attorneys and legal assistance to the prisoners who were housed within the NC Department of Corrections.

The present budgetary proposal to defund NCPLS and replace that agency with computers which can access various legal research services would do no more than recreate the limited prison library availability that the U.S. Supreme Court deemed to be unconstitutional in Bounds v. Smith. The proposal, as drafted and advocated by Representative Thomas Goolsby, does no more than provide in a computer format exactly the same thing that was previously provided through the use of law books and legal forms. It is understood that meaningful access to the courts means much more than simply allowing inmates to be able to read about the law. The Bounds v. Smith opinion mandates that the State provide legal assistance as well as legal information in order for the inmates' legal needs to be satisfied. The Goolsby proposal would evade that constitutional requirement. Providing access to legal opinions does not provide the legal assistance which the U.S. Supreme Court requires.

Prisoners have many legal needs and merely providing a computer to connect them to legal resources that allows them to read opinions does not satisfy the constitutional mandate. After determining that a legal need exists and where there are possible viable claims, the prisoner needs someone to interpret the law, prepare adequate pleadings, properly file and serve legal documents, respond to adverse responses, conduct and manage discovery and many other tasks which prisoners are simply unable to perform. Although it has been significantly underfunded over the years, NCPLS has successfully provided North Carolina prisoners with the type of legal services which satisfies the Bound v. Smith mandate.

The NC NAACP recognizes the significant needs for prisoners to have adequate access to legal services and deplore this effort by Representative Goolsby, an attorney who should know better, to strip prisoners of their constitutional right to ensure full access to the courts. We call upon the Senate and the House to fully restore the funding for NCPLS into this and subsequent budgets. We speak loudly for the prisoners and our court systems because they cannot speak for themselves on this critical constitutional issue.

The NC NAACP Calls for June 3rd Mass Rally on Moral Monday for Education and Voting Rights; Introduces 57 More People Arrested Last Monday; Details Grassroots Forward Together Movement Local Organizing Tour; Challenges NC General Assembly's Rush to Restart Racially-Biased Death Penalty and Questions Mean-Spirited NC Senate Budget at News Conference on Friday

RALEIGH - Tomorrow, Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:00 am at Martin Street Baptist Church, 1001 E. Martin Street, Raleigh, NC, the North Carolina NAACP will hold a news conference to:  1) Introduce a new wave of arrestees; 2) Discuss the NC General Assembly's unseemly rush to start killing people on Death Row, even though the courts found gross racial bias in the way the state conducts its business of death; 3) Question mean-spirited NC Senate budget; 4) Announce the launch of the Forward Together Movement Grassroots Organizing Tour next week; 5) Call for a mass rally on Monday, June 3.

The June 3 Rally will focus on the twin pillars of democracy: Voting Rights and Education.  In observance of Memorial Day, no protests will be held this Monday, May 27.

"Last Monday, another courageous wave of North Carolinians, ranging from 18 to 92 years old, from all backgrounds and all parts of the state, made the difficult moral decision to place their bodies, souls, and minds into the regressive machine on Jones Street," said Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President of the NC NAACP.  "The machine is run by a group of selfish people, who promote private policies for the few, by the few, and of the few."

"As North Carolina wakes up to the moral low ground taken by this group, the Forward Together Movement grows by leaps and bounds," Barber said. "Next week we take the fight to the home districts of the group of legislators passing out-of-state ALEC-written regressive bills."

No "Moral Monday" protests are scheduled for Monday, May 27, 2013 in observance of Memorial Day.

"Shouldn’t an employer have the right to uphold high moral standards in his or her company? Or shouldn’t schools have the right to not have open homosexuals or cross-dresses modeling that lifestyle to kids? This does not deprive anyone of a job by the way, except those who insist on displaying these lifestyles to everyone and forcing their acceptance. Such behavior shows a disrespect for two things: everyone else around them and for hardcore facts. The fact is that no one needs to be involved in homosexuality and all of the good qualities a person may have that might make that person otherwise an excellent employee don’t require a homosexual lifestyle. Now the activists won’t like this and I may get another slew of hateful emails and such from the tolerance crowd but really where is the actual concern for the rights and beliefs of others? The track record on these so-called non-discrimination regulations shows a consistent and disturbing pattern of bullying and abuse." - Linda Harvey.

John M Blust makes statement then hastily walks away for demonstrators

john m BlustJohn Marshall Blust (born June 4, 1954) is a Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly, representing the state's sixty-second House district, including constituents in Guilford county. An attorney from Greensboro, North Carolina, Blust has previously served terms in both the state House and Senate. He is a lawyer and a former U.S. Army captain.

Blust was relieved from his N.C. Senate seat by current U.S. Senator Kay Hagan.

While demonstrators were chanting and sings inside the NCGA, House Rep John Blust, has to check things out from himself. Then he felt the need to make a remake then run for cover down an off limit hallway in the NCGA.

The statement made by him,

“People have the right to voice their opinions, but they don’t have the right to force them on others,” Blust said before walking away.

He made the statement in earshot of those organizer whom were there.

Yes, yet the NCGA Republicans are forcing their political agenda down the throats of all NC citizens.

Just another self righteous jerk who thinks he owns the NCGA, yet can’t face a crowd after making a statement then runs away..

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Only 10% Support Berger Plan
Poll of 500 North Carolina Voters Shows No Appetite for a Working Class Tax Hike

RALEIGH, NC – Only 10% of North Carolina voters surveyed support a tax plan before the North Carolina Senate according to a Public Policy Polling poll.

81% of voters – including 79% of Republicans – oppose tax reform that would lower state income taxes, the corporate tax, and business franchise tax rates while cutting state spending, raising the tax on groceries by 225%, taxing over 100 goods and services that are not currently taxed, and taxing prescription drugs like any other product. Full results here.

“An overwhelming majority of North Carolina voters are opposed to Senator Phil Berger’s working class tax hike,” said YDNC President Sam Spencer. “Senate Republicans need to take a long, hard look at whether they’re willing to pay the electoral price for supporting Berger’s plan. Voters have no appetite for a Republican grocery tax hike.”

“The people of North Carolina saw through the gimmicks of this tax reform plan and see it as the largest tax increase in North Carolina history on the middle class and working families,” said YDNC National Committeeman Justin Conley of Franklin, NC. Click here to read previous comments from Spencer and Conley on the Working Class Tax Hike.

Founded in 1928, the Young Democrats of North Carolina (YDNC) is an organization for all registered Democrats under 36, including College Democrats and Teen Democrats. YDNC is one of the oldest political organizations in our state, and is the founding chapter of the Young Democrats of America. YDNC is the official youth auxiliary of the North Carolina Democratic Party. The survey of 500 North Carolina voters was conducted May 17-20, 2013 by Public Policy Polling for YDNC. Today's NCGA Tweets of interest.

These to Cops is a Gun, Yes a Gun,

smartphone-comparison

The trend of insinuating cell phones can be guns began earlier this year when Juan “Biggie” Santana had his Sony Bloggie confiscated by Hialeah police officer  Antonio Sentmanat in South Florida.

So do you believe this crap, cops claims they fear for their lives, cause  you know that iphone could be a igun..

Moral Monday Protests at the NCGA in Raleigh, NC

Today there was another Protest at the NCGA in Raleigh, NC. It would seem the people of the NC is sick and tired of the way the NC GOP is running our state. it would seem that they power hungry, since it has been over 50 years that that GOP has control of all three house, The Governor House, and both house of the NCGA.

Just what are they doing at these protests, Many of the demonstrators went into the Legislative Building clapping, singing, chanting, hoisting placards and raising their voices with expectations of arrest.

For the second week in row the capital police had a state’s dept. of corrections bus at the NCGA to help transport those arrested for standing up the power hungry GOP’s..

No wonder they haven’t had control in the last 50+ years.. 942181_372741732838097_544278458_n

so what are the charges facing those who are arrested,

NC NAACP Pleased With Recent Ruling to Hold Evidentiary Hearing in Two Year Old Lawsuit against Race-Based Voting Districts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

16 May 2013

For More Information:           Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, President, 919-394-8137

Mrs. Amina J. Turner, Executive Director, 919-682-4700

Atty. Jamie Phillips, Public Policy Coordinator, 919-682-4700

"We are pleased the court has ordered an evidentiary hearing in our long-running lawsuit against racial gerrymandering by the extremists who took over our legislature in 2010," said Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, President of the NC Conference of over 120 NAACP Branches.  Dr. Barber, speaking from Jackson, Mississippi, said, "I am here in the heart of the Old South.  Our National NAACP Board chose to meet here to honor the late NAACP leader, Medgar Evers, who was assassinated while building a fusion coalition to win the vote for black people here.  Medgar was elected by the courageous members who were open NAACP members to lead the State Conference of Branches during the height of KKK and other extremists in the days of violent murders and court house cover-ups --to terrorize black citizens who tried to vote.  Medgar was 38 years old when he was killed, 50 years ago on June 12, 1963."
