Who Have They Hurt? What Have They Cost Us?

RALEIGH - The Forward Together Movement, led by the NC NAACP, will hold a rally outside the NC General Assembly on July 8, marking the tenth "Moral Monday" demonstration, which has brought thousands of North Carolinians to Raleigh to protest the destructive efforts by the current legislative leadership and Governor to take North Carolina backward. The theme for this Moral Monday will lift up questions about the NC General Assembly and Governor: "What are the numbers? Who have they hurt? What have they cost us?"

A news conference will be held at Christian Faith Baptist Church, 509 Hilltop Drive, Raleigh, NC at 4:00 PM on Monday, July 8, 2013. A rally on Halifax Mall behind the NC General Assembly begins at 5:00 pm.

"On Monday, the people assembled on Halifax Mall will hear the hard facts of the impact of this General Assembly's regressive and extreme public policy agenda," said Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President of the NC NAACP. "We know that their policies will hurt all North Carolinians, White and Black, Latinos, Asians and Native Americans, women and men, poor and rich, young and old, middle class and the unemployed. Their policies will have a negative impact on every dimension of our society. We need to expose the cost they are forcing on our state, and begin to outline how we will continue the Movement after Moral Mondays."

Additionally, what began with 17 individuals making the moral decision to bear witness to the extremism that has taken over the NC General Assembly through nonviolent civil disobedience on April 29 has now resulted in nearly 700 arrests over the past 10 weeks.
