RALEIGH - The North Carolina NAACP and the Forward Together Movement will hold the final Moral Monday of the 2013 legislative session on July 29 with a rally at Halifax Mall and a march to an interfaith service in front of the State Capitol.
The day will begin with a news conference with clergy and former Moral Monday arrestees who will announce fresh plans for moving forward after the current round of Moral Monday demonstrations at 4:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 101 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC.
A delegation will walk across the street to the State Capitol to deliver a letter requesting that Governor Pat McCrory meet with the Forward Together Movement. Details of the meeting request will be outlined at the news conference.
The mass rally will begin at Halifax Mall at 5:00 p.m. and participants will march to Fayetteville Street facing the State Capitol at 6:00 p.m. At Halifax Mall, faith leaders will address the moral dimensions of public policy and why the actions of the current leadership of the NC General Assembly and Governor are extreme and immoral and a violation of North Carolina's deepest moral and constitutional values.
At 6:00 pm, those gathered at Halifax Mall will begin a symbolic march from the General Assembly to the State Capitol signifying a determination to turn things around. Once at the State Capitol, Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, President of the NC NAACP, will give a call to action for future Moral Mondays across the state and provide next steps for the Forward Together Movement.
