Email from NC Conservation Network

The legislature finally ended their 2011 session, but not without leaving a trail of destruction on North Carolina's environmental protections. There are 3 bills that are now on Governor Perdue's desk that urgently need her veto stamp.

Tell Governor Perdue to veto the attacks on the environment passed by the legislature: http://action.ncconservationnetwork.org/threebigbills

The legislative majority pushed through three major anti-environmental bills at a frenzied pace:

  • S781 would bring key state protections down to the federal minimum requirements, a move only big polluters can love.
  • S709 would threaten NC's beaches by opening up our coast to offshore drilling, just 1 year after the Gulf oil spill,
  • S110 threatens our natural beaches by allowing hardened structures on our coastline. These structures trap sand, causing erosion on nearby beaches. This could lead to a domino effect in which the state's beaches are covered in unattractive jetties and similar structures.

Tell the Governor to stand strong against attacks on what makes North Carolina unique and beautiful by vetoing these anti-environment bills!
