Book Banning in North Carolina, Just wrong

Classics__4-14-13

Recently, the Brunswick County Board of Education met to discuss whether or not to remove the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Color Purple” from a high school reading list. The meeting marked at least the third time this year that a North Carolina school board has openly considered removing from a reading list or altogether banning a critically acclaimed work of literature after a small group of parents complained about its content. - See more here:

Tami Fitzgerald of NCVC shows her True Colours.

Gay rights radicals have no right to impose their views on sexuality on private school students and their parents.

Really, buts its ok for so-called Christians to force their so-called religion on people.

I guess they will also be denying kids of different faiths too..

The folks at North Carolina Values Coalitions are a bunch of racist, homophobic bigots..

Have you read the Lies that NC Values is pushing about Enda?

No comment is needed on my part,

- ENDA creates a new special right for someone who claims to be homosexual, bisexual, or transgendered to sue business owners.

- Businesses owned by well-meaning and honest people will be forced to give special rights to men who choose to dress and act like women and women who choose to dress and act like men, regardless of the business owners’ own beliefs or religious faith.

- ENDA will pave the way for frivolous litigation that will make lawyers millions on the backs of America's small businesses.

- ENDA could force small businesses across North Carolina to choose between fighting an expensive and lengthy lawsuit and closing up shop.

- ENDA could be used as the instrument with which all businesses in our country will be cleansed of their Christian beliefs or of their opinions that certain jobs are not suitable for those with “gender identity” or “sexual orientation” disorders.

This law sets a dangerous precedent and poses a direct threat to religious liberty in America and our First Amendment freedoms.

Two days ago, on Saturday morning, to the largest civil rights gathering in Eastern North Carolina in decades, Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II presented his annual "State of Civil Rights in North Carolina" report to the North Carolina NAACP. He heaped praise on the tens of thousands of North Carolinians who participated in the 13 Moral Mondays at the Peoples House on Jones Street in Raleigh to expose the tea party's extreme legislative policies.  He thanked the local peoples assemblies that brought the Forward Together Movement into every corner of the state, at simultaneous assemblies in the 13 U.S. Congressional Districts at the same hour, 50 years ago, that Dr. Martin Luther King urged the 1963 participants to take the March on Washington back home in the South, to accelerate the long, hard work of dismantling racism back home.  And he listed the dozen Moral Mondays that have been held around the state, and several that are planned in the near future--as well as Moral Monday groups becoming activated around the nation.

Tami Fitzgerald has her nickers in a knot

is foaming at the mouth, over the fact that NC’s Attorney General Roy Cooper will be giving the Keynote Speech at this year Equality NC Gala in Greensboro. She Feels that since he is the State Attorney who must defend  Amendment one shouldn’t be giving speech at this LGBT Gala.

See email from her below,

We need your help immediately.Tami-L.-Fitzgerald

Right now North Carolina's Marriage Amendment is under attack and the person charged with defending it in court is Democrat Attorney General Roy Cooper, who has made his opposition to the amendment clear in the past.

Now we have learned that Roy Cooper will headline a fundraising event for Equality NC - the very group that is working on the ground in North Carolina to overturn the Amendment we worked so hard to get passed!

This is outrageous!

How can an Attorney General charged with defending the definition of marriage contained in our Constitution also headline an event designed to overturn that very same Constitutional provision?

Clearly he is unwilling to stand up for the Amendment that over 60% of North Carolinians support!

We need your help immediately! We clearly cannot rely on the Attorney General to defend our Marriage Amendment!

Please make an emergency donation today to the NC Values Coalition.

With your donation today, we can make sure everyone in North Carolina knows the Attorney General is more interested in future political ambitions than performing the job he was elected to do.

There is no time to waste - please donate right now!

I feel this is a scam, since no matter how much money they get, thay can’t stop him for speaking at this event. Tami and her goons are just ripping people off, Period. I guess they need this month rent and light bill money…

in other news Cooper had said many time he has defended a law of NC, that he doesn’t agree with, cause it was his job to do. So Tami is just blowing smoke and asking for money to support her political ambitions and her life-style

WASHINGTON - This Tuesday, as the Supreme Court hears McCutcheon v FEC, activists and leaders of grass-roots peoples organizations representing a wide spectrum of issues will protest the super-rich effort to further undermine the integrity of our democracy on the Court's front steps. Mr. McCutcheon, on behalf of all super-rich individuals, has asked the Court to left the caps on the amount an individual can directly contribute to a political campaign.

Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, North Carolina NAACP State President, and leader of the most exciting multi-racial progressive people's movement in the nation, will be a featured speaker on the Supreme Court Steps.

WTF: Kay Hagan? Gov’t close to a shut down, she asking for money.

We're coming down to the wire -- there's just under 8 hours left to reach our $90,000 goal before the FEC deadline.
The special interests certainly spared no expense in North Carolina this month. And we can't spare any expense in building the grassroots network we need to fight back.
The clock is ticking.
Chip in $5 or more right now to help us reach our $90,000 goal before the FEC deadline at midnight tonight.

Thank you for all of your hard work this month.

A Statement from the North Carolina NAACP

North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Claude Pope held a news conference on Tuesday, in which he criticized the Forward Together Movement and the continuing Moral Monday rallies. The Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President of the North Carolina NAACP, issued the following statement.

"We pray for Mr. Pope, his family and his Party. It is difficult, when you find yourself on the wrong side of history, to face truth.

But let us be clear: the North Carolina NAACP's dispute and critique is not with Mr. Claude Pope. We are highly critical of Gov. McCrory, Mr. Tillis and Mr. Berger and other elected officials, who put their hands on the Holy Bible, and swore to uphold the Constitutions of North Carolina and the United States, to govern for the good of the whole.

They have not done so. Until they do, the broad, deep diversity of the Forward Together Movement will continue to challenge their immoral, unconstitutional policies."

While Grieving the Unconstitutional Laws at the General Assembly

DURHAM - The purpose of the Moral Monday Movement has always been to shine the clear light of justice on the extreme regressive policies of the Pope-Koch financed group that took over the NC Republican Party a few years ago.  This regressive group secretly engineered a race based gerrymandering scheme that was not subject to a veto by Gov. Perdue in 2010.  This most race based redistricting plan since the 19th Century - that stacks, packs and bleaches the African American and minority vote - allowed them to seat a "super-majority" in the People's House on Jones Street, although a majority of the voters voted against them!

The North Carolina NAACP has chalked up eight years of experience fighting the shadowy Pope-Koch forces. We watched them insinuate their mean-spirited policies into the public discourse.  While we built a broad progressive coalition of over 150 partners in our Historic Thousands on Jones Street Movement . . . while we helped pass laws that strengthened democracy and fairness in our beloved North Carolina . . . the Pope-Koch forces of bias, and backwardness took over Mr. Lincoln's Grand Old Party and made a U-Turn on Jones Street, promoting and passing an agenda that assaulted moral, human, and constitutional rights of the vast majority of North Carolinians - evidenced by the new voter suppression law, the worst and most vulgar attempt to manipulate elections in this country.

If you need to be reminded,  Hurricane Katrina happened in 2005. Source.

It seem that folks of US are stupid as hell, Obama didn’t get in office till 2008, so just how was it if fault??

here this to think about:

A significant chunk of Louisiana Republicans evidently believe that President Barack Obama is to blame for the poor response to the hurricane that ravaged their state more than three years before he took office.

NAACP Holds News Conference Tomorrow (Tuesday) Morning

DURHAM - Governor Pat McCrory and the North Carolina Legislature are on the wrong side of history.  This Anti-Voting Rights Bill tramples on the blood of our martyrs, desecrates the graves of freedom fighters, and in the 21st Century lines up with the extreme racially-driven philosophy of interposition and nullification promoted by past political figures like George Wallace and Strom Thurmond.

Their direct attempts to suppress the civil rights of black people in North Carolina and secure power through manipulation of the electorate are the ultimate crimes against democracy, driven by extremists in our state.  For the Governor to sign this horrific bill less than a week after Julius Chambers was laid to rest is dishonorable.

Politics in Charlotte getting right down Ugly

DOC: Gary Dunn email to black political caucus

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

On Wednesday night, one candidate is trying to explain himself after calling his competitor the black, gay candidate.
Eyewitness News has the details from a controversial email.
The letter was written to the black political caucus by a Democratic mayoral candidate, Gary Dunn.
In the letter, Dunn thanked the caucus for inviting him to a political meet and greet.
But then he said, “Maybe I got this wrong, but you should know that I am not the black gay candidate Patrick Cannon, I am the white guy.”

He went on to say that he hopes the black political caucus is not a “white racist group that would vote for only a black candidate.”
Eyewitness News spoke with Dunn on the phone Wednesday night, and he said he is not a bigot, but he said no one should vote based on race or sexual orientation.
"I would fight for every black person on the street. I would fight for every homosexual. I would go out there and kill for them to make sure they got equal rights," said Dunn.
The man he called the black, gay candidate is Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Cannon.
On Wednesday night, he said he is not gay.
He called Dunn’s statements unfortunate.
"It saddens me that someone running for public office would demonstrate such divisive behavior using inflammatory language, especially untruths to attack a family man like myself," said Cannon.
Cannon has served on Charlotte City Council since 1993.
He said after Dunn’s statements, his supporters are more energized than ever.
Cannon and Dunn are among four Democrats facing off in a Sept. 10 primary

This letter was sent to Governor Pat McCrory on Thursday of last week. Phone calls from the NC NAACP to the Governor's office to follow up were unsuccessful.

August 1, 2013

Honorable Pat McCrory, Governor

State of North Carolina

Dear Governor McCrory:

On Monday, over 10,000 North Carolinians came to Raleigh to challenge the extremist agenda that was passed by the General Assembly.

Earlier that day, a delegation of clergy, teachers and advocates delivered your office an enlarged copy of House Bill 589. We understand you are presently considering the Bill, to make what will be a historic decision to sign or veto it. As you know, we, and perhaps 80% of North Carolina voters believe it to be one of the most restrictive and regressive attacks on minority, elderly and young people's voting rights seen in this nation since the end of Reconstruction and the implementation of Jim Crow at the turn of the 20th Century.

NC NAACP Responds to the Passage of Most Extreme Voter Restriction Laws in the Nation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

26 July 2013

For More Information:           Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President, 919-394-8137

Atty. Jamie Phillips Cole, Public Policy Coordinator,

   919-682-4700

Overnight, the North Carolina General Assembly finally brought to a close the shameful 2013 legislative session. Alongside a host of other ultra-regressive bills rammed though at the eleventh hour of the session, as expected, the North Carolina General Assembly cemented its status as the number one government in voter suppression when it passed the most aggressive attack on the voting rights of North Carolina citizens in modern history.

"This latest voting rights attack represents the most comprehensive attack on the right to vote that this state has enacted since the institution of Jim Crow laws in the 19th Century when federal troops pulled out of the South," said North Carolina NAACP President Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II. "Extremist members of the General Assembly viewed the Supreme Court's ruling on Section 4 as once again federal protections being removed, thereby giving them the freedom to undermine and disenfranchise the poor, African Americans, and all people of color."

Thom Tillis what a Tool,

Back in June of 2013 Tillis calls for a dialogue with the Moral Monday protesters, Yet when they come to his office he is no were around to speak with them.

this past week a small group (8) people when to see Tillis at this office at the NCGA,

A handful of students with the Forward Together Movement crowded Republican House Speaker Thom Tillis' office with a bone to pick over the new state voter ID law.

They chanted, "Forward together, not one step back."

Things didn’t go as plan,

See video for more info,

Yet this man wants to be our US Congressman, yet he won't meet with the voter to talk about a Voter Right Bill.. I know this for sure, I won't be voting for him.
