Why Teacher’s Assistants are important

Teacher's assistants explain their role, but brace for cuts http://t.co/bbVnxyT #ncga #ncpol

Thousands of teacher's assistants in elementary classrooms are facing the chopping block under the state Senate's $19.4 budget proposal, which was unveiled last week and includes cuts to education spending overall.

"We are the foundation of the bridge; but if you don't have the foundation, the bridge doesn't work," said Fran Cameron, a first grade teacher's assistant at Joyner Elementary School in Raleigh.

So if the GOP what to know why these assistants are important, then I have solution for them see how they are need. THE Governor fired all assistants inside the NCGA, except one assistant per Rep/sen. That right one worker to add each of the Representative and Senator of the NCGA, this move would save a lot of money. But with in a week these idiots would see why the Teachers need their assistants.

Also if Tony Tata was a teacher before becoming a Superintendent then he would know what these Teacher’s Assistants do in the class, and how they are needed on daily basics. He wouldn’t need to reach out to find out.

Wake County Sheriff’s Deputy Arrested

How did I miss this,

via Copblock.org

In Raleigh, North Carolina, one Wake County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and another is under investigation for the theft of drugs and cash from the department. Deputy Balinda Manley, 34, was fired after her arrest last month when she was charged with two counts of embezzlement and one count of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. She went down after a routine audit showed that she signed out drugs and $6,435 in cash last June, but didn’t return it. When prosecuted requested the evidence for trial, she returned drugs, and then, five days later, what she said was the cash. But when investigators opened the package, they found a pile of blank paper sandwiched between two $100 bills. Investigators found a deposit slip for $1,800 in Manley’s care and one for $940 in the car of a second deputy, Chad Hines. He is now under investigation.

He doesn’t know what to Do!

Mark Binker of News and Record Ask the question?

So what happens if Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue and Republican lawmakers can’t strike a deal on the budget by the end of the fiscal year?

Now that is a great question, and the if you are a NCGA House Speaker one would think you should know this Right! Well it seen that Tillis doesn’t know his job. Doesn’t know what is the procedure, What there is no procedure written down in the Laws Book of NC for this situation? I find that very hard to believe.

His response,

“I honestly don’t know,” House Speaker Thom Tillis said last week. “There’s no historical precedent for (that) in modern times; that’s why we need to avoid it.”

The State has gone a few hours without a budgets, never days or weeks.

So we have 200+ elected officials who don’t know what to do, if the NCGA and Bev Perdue can’t reach an agreement on the Budget. Then what are we paying these people for.

But Tillis and Berger is try to hold the 45,000 plus unemployed over Bev Perdue head as hostage in order to get her to approve their budget, which is not playing this game since she already Veto one Budget.

Both of these guys need to voted out of office during their next election term

NC GOP give the Rich More tax breaks

Via the progressive pulse,

The N.C. Budget and Tax Center will be releasing a full analysis of the Senate’s tax cut package next week, but, not surprisingly, the unfairness of the plan is already evident in preliminary findings.

According to their initial estimates, the average annual income tax cut for people in bottom quintile (i.e. the lowest 20% of incomes) will be $5. That’s right, five big ones baby!  Let’s grab a six pack of Schlitz and party!

That right the GOP is giving the Rich of NC more tax breaks while sticking the poor with more, ok not more really but also most no tax break at all unless you do consider 5 dollars a year a damn tax break..

the NC Policy also noted that the final “incidence” figures will almost certainly be ever worse once the BTC gets to adding in the cuts to business taxes in the Senate package, which might mean more break for those wealthy NC’ers.

I see the GOP is nothing more then the goode ole rich white man club.. protecting the wealth why keeping the poor down and underfoot.

Email from David Parker of NC Democrats

During his candidacy for governor, Terry Sanford questioned "whether all children in North Carolina had a fair chance to develop, to  compete, to achieve, to use fully all the talents with God had endowed them."  The answer was no. When Gov. Sanford won in 1961 he implemented his platform of educational excellence and North Carolina thrived.

It is now 2011, we ask the same question, and this year we get the same answer of no.  However, instead of improvements, the Republican-controlled General Assembly has proposed a budget that digs a deeper whole into an already struggling education system.  The Republican plan would dissolve Smart Start, lay off thousands of teachers, and put North Carolina in near-last place in the nation for per pupil spending.

Rally in Raleigh For Equality

sb106-rally-online-useWe want to make sure you know about an event being organized by GetEQUAL NC to fight back against a Senate and House bill that could add an amendment to the North Carolina state constitution prohibiting marriage equality -- SB106 and HB777.

The proposed legislation would not only put an anti-gay marriage amendment on the 2012 ballot, it would also prevent private businesses and municipalities in NC from offering domestic partnership insurance benefits and make null and void Domestic Partnership Registries in the three cities in NC that offer them (Chapel Hill, Asheville and Carrboro) -- basically, it would end all relationship recognition outside of heterosexual marriage.

You've probably already sent in postcards, signed petitions, and sent emails to your representatives -- but now it is time to join together, united, and make a stand. Will you stand with us to let our North Carolina lawmakers know that we refuse to be even further alienated from and discriminated by our government? We are all equal, and it is time our government started treating us as such!

A Message from Burr

burrThe week prior to a congressional recess is always busy, and this was no exception.  On Monday, I cosponsored legislation introduced by Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) that will provide relief from burdensome requirements placed on small businesses by the new health care law.  The Obama law, marketed as health care reform, expands the size of the federal government and actually increases health care costs rather than reducing them.  It is bad for our economy and for American families who are already struggling to make ends meet.

This bill, the Small Business Health Relief Act, repeals mandates  that drive up the cost of health insurance and limit choice for Americans, lowers premiums by repealing new fees that will be passed onto consumers, and allows people to actually keep the insurance they have if they like it – a promise made and broken by the Administration.

The last thing North Carolina small businesses need right now are more burdensome provisions that hinder their ability to hire new employees and grow.  We need to be supporting our nation’s economic engine, not hindering them with new mandates that stifle growth, reduce flexibility and choice, and increase costs.

On Thursday, I introduced a bill that would cut government spending and improve efficiency by combining the Department of Labor and Department of Commerce into a single agency, the Department of Commerce and the Workforce.  The bill would provide cost savings by combining duplicative functions and improve the quality of our country’s economic policies by ensuring a consistent, coordinated approach.

Voter ID BIll Tweet and Comment

#NCGOP voter suppression efforts would cost the state more money: http://bit.ly/k8So9M #NCGA

Love this comment, it rings true, that is what the fear the most.. Losing the house and senate again. Basically they are trying to create job security from themselves.. And to hell with the people..

The GOP supporting this bill screams of desperation and fear. It's clear Repubs are simply scared that Democrats will have the same massive turnout as in '08. If people are going to have Voter ID's therefore eliminating the GOP's claim of "rampant" voter fraud, then why do we also need shorter voting periods? Great, let's pass a bill that makes the voting process more difficult and inconvenient - much better! This bill makes no sense and is ALL about voter suppression. The great GOP overreach of 2011 was not only predicted but also inevitable and self destructive.

BAN OF DANGEROUS SYNTHETIC DRUGS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT Elizabeth Hudgins: 919-707-5626

May 26, 2011

BAN OF DANGEROUS SYNTHETIC DRUGS GOES INTO EFFECT JUNE 1 RALEIGH: A ban of various dangerous synthetic drugs goes into effect in North Carolina on June 1, 2011. It will be illegal to sell, manufacture or possess synthetic cannabinoids, MPDV, or mephedrone.

These drugs have been sold legally, often labeled as incense, bath salts, or plant food.

The Child Fatality Task Force commends the General Assembly for passing and the Governor for signing this law which will help protect youth and adults from these dangerous chemicals. “These are dangerous substances with troubling side effects. They aren’t safe and soon won’t be legal either,” said Elizabeth Hudgins, Executive Director of the Child Fatality Task Force.

Sale and manufacture will be a felony; possession charges will vary depending on the amount of the substance.

Use has been growing rapidly. For example, the Carolinas Poison Center reported as many calls on MDPV – a synthetic cocaine – in the first 2 months of 2011 as in all of 2010 combined. Use is especially prevalent in Cumberland and Onslow Counties.

Legislators heard from doctors, parents, law enforcement and others as they discussed the ban.

At least 28 states have banned one or more of these substances. The Drug Enforcement Administration recently added synthetic cannabinoids to their controlled substance list.

Two of a Kind in the NCGA

No big Fan of Bev Perdue

bevperduehead_100In my local circles its no secret that I can’t stand our Gov Bev Perdue, I don’t think she was the right person for the job.In my opinion she doesn’t have enough of a backbone to stand up the GOP in the NCGA.

Well that was till recently, She veto the GOP budget that was holding 36,000 unemployed hostages to it. I feel that she did the right thing, though many of the 36,000 to 46,000 unemployed won’t agree at all.

In April, Perdue called the GOP effort to link the two issues "extortion" and said she would sign a separate benefits bill. you go girl!!!

In my opinion she need to stand her ground and tell the House and Senate speakers that she means business. That it is the GOP that is playing political games with federal unemployment money, not her.

It’s all about the $$$$ with the NC GOP

Via twitter @bill_holmes Gboro N&R: GOP ignores military's pleas, hikes interest rates on loans offered by big donors. #ncga #ncpol http://bit.ly/jrxAJI

Opponents of the bill say the vote came after pressure from Republican leaders on behalf of an industry that helped bankroll the GOP takeover of the chamber.

How we know that GOP is in bed with lending companies, Rep. Harold Brubaker claims its was time to give them relief. Wow Brubaker, how much did they slip you in a brown envelope?

The bill expands the maximum amount of certain small loans but raises interest rates. For example, current law allows lenders to charge 15 percent interest rates for certain loans between $600 and $1,500. That interest rate would rise to 36 percent for those same loans.

That is double the amount of interest. this is outrageous, I guess they will let banks to double their rates next.

Should have known Tillis-jerk has his hands into it.

But in the day before the vote, Brubaker, who serves on the committee, and House Speaker Thom Tillis met with Republican members of the committee, urging them to support the bill. At the same time, deployment operations at Fort Bragg prevented commanders from appearing in person to oppose the bill.

Don’t forget to follow the $$$$$, Hall did..

Hall detailed $140,370 in campaign donations from lenders that make small installment loans and their PACS that went to Republican candidates or campaign funds during the 2010 election cycle. At the same time, the lenders shifted support away from Democratic leaders.

HRC need an enema

I got another one of those “BIG THINGS are HAPPEN” so we need money email for HRC(The human Rights Campaign).

Every time I get one of these action email, there very little info and always a request for more money. I think its high time that Joe and the rest of the over paid desk plants to take a pay cut. Joe need to start flying coach and rent reasonable auto’s instead of taking Limo’s and First Class air fairs..

joesolmonese33853From Joe,

I just got off the phone with HRC Board Member Bruce Bastian. He's challenged HRC supporters to raise $100,000 – and he'll match every dollar with one of his own.

He's doing it because big things are happening here at HRC and all across the country – thanks to you. You've helped run ads and mobilize thousands of volunteers in an all-out blitz to win marriage equality in New York. You helped bring 250 pro-equality clergy members to Capitol Hill this week. And together we've sparked a new, national conversation about homophobia in sports.

But make no mistake. We could win in New York – or right-wing hatred could prevail. More sports stars could support equality – or more slurs could air on national TV. Speaker Boehner could stop spending tax dollars to defend discrimination in the DOMA case – or we could see a resurgence of discriminatory efforts in Congress.

It all depends on how quickly we can react to a crisis, on how skillfully we can fight when it counts – and on you.

WOW, I thought we were giving them money to work on our behalf.

All this after their massive failure in Tennessee. Where were they?? I’m sure Joe didn’t put his beauty treatment and shopping for over price suits and underwear in front of the rights of the Tennessee’s LGBT community.

Harold Camping should be sue for this.

Harold-CampingHarold Camping, the preacher who predicted last Saturday would bring about the end of the world.

His so called predicted cause a mother of two girls, to try to kill them and herself,

A California woman named Lyn Benedetto was one of millions who heard Camping’s message, and became concerned that her daughters would suffer terribly in the coming apocalypse. She allegedly forced her daughters, 11 and 14, to lie on a bed and then cut their throats with a box cutter. She then tried to kill herself, though police arrested Benedetto and all three survived. Via the Washington Post,

fasRep. Virginia Foxx, the sponsor of the measure, says she wants to make it “crystal clear” that taxpayer money is not being used to train health care providers to perform abortions.

What is this women smoking or taking?? I think someone need to check her medical cabinet, to see if she has any illegal or out of date medicines in there. Wait better yet, to see if she had a lobotomy recently..

She doesn’t want Doctor to learn how to give or perform abortions, even if its to same the woman’s life.

The amendment has pass the house and now off to the senate..

Then again we all know Ms Foxx is way off her rocker.. What else do you expect from a person who claim a death of a young man was a hoax..

House Rep and the Jobless benefits bill..

House GOP ties jobless benefits bill to budget fallback proposal once again. #NCGA #NCPOL http://ht.ly/535uA

The GOP claim it the Governor who is playing political games, when in truth it’s the KKK oops the Old White men in the GOP that is playing games..

309Majority Leader Paul Stam, R-Wake, said it's the governor who is playing games by failing to accept a measure that would require her to accept state spending that's only 3 percent less compared to what her budget proposal recommended. Stam said the two issues are linked and provide certainty to state workers and the public if a budget deal for next year isn't reached on time.

However the Gov does have a supporter in house,

45"You have connected two totally unconnected things, and it has the effect of denying unemployment benefits to people who need it, who are destitute, who are desperate, and you ought to be ashamed of yourself," said House Minority Leader Joe Hackney, D-Orange. His amendment to remove the budget provision failed by a vote of 14-9. The bill now heads to the House.

the true problem is that there is to many ex lawyers in the house, and since most of they are as crooked as a road.. Hell, they are just crooks and they know it.

Our Governor has the GOP tactic as extortion and holding the 45,000 NC unemployed as hostages.. to Advance their own agenda over the will of the people.

See Stam talk about the bill..

You can hear and smell the lies coming out of his mouth…

But Wait Tillis has to chime in on this as well..

Tillis said the length and extent of the cut in the vetoed bill probably went too far, but coupling it with the unemployment benefits still makes sense to him. Advocates for the unemployed don't see it that way.

Wow, a very small slice of truth from this half-wit Jerk. Hey Tillis, “No one will ever know that you've had a lobotomy, if you learn to control the slobbering”

Rod Blagojevich back on Trial..

Via the RawStory,

556px-Rod_Blagojevich_mug_shot-278x30011

The new corruption trial against former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich launches Wednesday, to cast final judgment about whether he attempted to sell the Senate seat Barack Obama vacated to become president, among other corruption charges.

However he does have a heart, kinda, he want to the state save some money, also helping himself while at it.

In March, Blagojevich asked for the retrial to be canceled in order to save the taxpayer money being used for his defense, but his plea was denied.

Wow, he cares.. NOT I can only hope this self serving jerk rots in prison, and becomes Big Bubba’s bitch..

Background: via Wikipedia,

Blagojevich was arrested on federal corruption charges including conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery December 9, 2008.

On January 9, 2009, the Illinois House of Representatives voted to impeach Blagojevich by a 114–1 vote for corruption and misconduct in office, the first time such an action has been taken against a governor of Illinois, making him the second state official in Illinois history to be impeached.

I guess since he was a Lawyer/Prosecutor he forgot how to clean up after himself so he won’t get caught. Dumb ass.. Sorry to say he was a Democratic, just goes to show you, you can’t trust neither one of the parties in Congress.

Senator Al Franken on Elizabeth Warren

Senate Republicans are threatening to block any appointee to head the new Consumer Financial Protect Bureau unless it is watered down to serve Wall Street interests.

Representative Barney Frank called the Republican move "the worst abuse of the confirmation process I've ever seen" and added, "What it clearly says is that the president will have to make a recess appointment."

I agree.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee has written a letter to President Obama supporting Warren's recess appointment, and it's been signed by top academics and other progressive organizations.

It's a great letter -- with a message I wholeheartedly support. Can you join them and sign the letter yourself?

Click here to add your name to the letter asking President Obama to appoint Elizabeth Warren -- then send this email to friends.

Monday, a banking leader who once called Warren the "Antichrist" said his initial impressions were wrong and urged a recess appointment. We have momentum, President Obama is paying attention, and an outpouring of national support will make a big difference.

Since the president appointed Elizabeth Warren to set up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau she has proven she can stand up to Wall Street. Now, it's time for a permanent leader to be appointed and, because Republican senators have vowed to block anyone, it's up to President Obama to use his power constitutional power to bypass Republicans and make a recess appointment.

Academics who know Elizabeth well -- like Lawrence Lessig and Dean Baker -- as well as prominent progressive organizations of all stripes like Democracy for America, Democracia, CREDO Action, the Sierra Club, VoteVets, MoveOn, and others have signed on to the PCCC's letter. Even Wall Street folks who support reform have signed on.

Can you add your voice to theirs? Click here to sign the letter.

Thanks for being a bold progressive,

Rep Stephen A. LaRoque “statement of the day”

622A day after a state civil rights leader was arrested at the General Assembly, one North Carolina lawmaker is speaking out on the situation.

Rep. Stephen LaRoque, R-Wayne, said state NAACP president Rev. William Barber is a racist. Likewise, LaRoque didn’t limit his criticism to Barber. “I think the modern-day NAACP is a racist organization.”

Hey LaRoque, what about the Republican party, they are just as if not more racist then the NAACP could ever be. the GOP is made up of Clam members. Come to think of it, I bet you have your white sheet outfit hanging in your closet at this very moment.

Now he telling he even said this in a email. What a douche?

LaRoque also confirmed that he made similar comments in email sent last week to NAACP attorney Jennifer Marsh, who later forwarded the message to Barber. LaRoque said he wasn’t sure whether the email had anything to do with an outburst in the House gallery on Tuesday. Barber was among seven individuals arrested for that disruption.

Dream Act

For Immediate Release

Senators Reintroduce the DREAM Act

May 11, 2011
Washington, D.C. - Today,

Senators Richard Durbin, Harry Reid, and Robert Menendez re-introduced the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act. Last fall, the DREAM Act passed the House of Representatives, and garnered the support of a majority in the Senate, but was ultimately defeated when the Senate failed to invoke cloture and proceed to debate. The sponsors of the DREAM Act hope to build on last year's momentum and continue to highlight the importance of fully utilizing the talent and potential of thousands of young people who are Americans in every way but their birth certificates.

First introduced in 2001, the DREAM Act would address the plight of young immigrants who have been raised in the U.S. and managed to succeed despite the challenges of being brought here without proper documentation.

The proposal would offer a path to legal status to those who have graduated from high school, stayed out of trouble, and plan to attend college or serve in the U.S. military for at least two years.

Each year, approximately 65,000 undocumented students graduate from high school, many at the top of their classes, but cannot go on to college, join the military, work, or otherwise pursue their dreams.

They belong to the 1.5 generation: immigrants brought to the United States at a young age who were largely raised in this country and therefore share much in common with second-generation Americans. These students are culturally American and fluent in English, growing up here and often having little attachment to their country of birth.

The moral, intellectual and practical rationale for the DREAM Act is overwhelming. The White House supports it. The Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Justice, entrusted with enforcing and implementing our immigration laws, support it. The Department of Education and America's academic and faith community support it, as well as state legislators, community groups, and the American public. The DREAM Act is even part of the Department of Defense's 2010-2012 Strategic Plan to assist the military in its recruiting efforts.

Despite broad support for the legislative proposal, the divisive political environment around immigration poses an enormous challenge for the DREAM Act. If Congress fails to act, the Administration can and should take more decisive steps to ensure that the values driving their legislative agenda are reflected in their implementation and interpretation of current law. DHS should ensure that its officers use their prosecutorial discretion to defer the removal of any eligible student caught up in the broken immigration system.

Enough hypocrisy. GOP Rep. #Patrick_McHenry is the liar. Another closeted gay GOPer. http://tinyurl.com/3d7hq6e @MichaelRogersDC
now the story,
M001156Representative Patrick T. McHenry, a North Carolina Republican who is chairman of a subcommittee of the House oversight committee, told Ms. Warren, who is directing the start of the consumer agency, that he believed she had misled Congress about her role in settlement talks between government authorities and mortgage servicing companies.
Yes when the GOP don’t do their job and listen to their staff, everyone is lying but them and a course those whom hand them large amount of cash in brown envelopes in restaurants, coffee shop, on the subway and in parks..
the back and forth got mess and nasty,
“Congressman, you are causing problems,” Ms. Warren said. “We had an agreement.”
“You’re making this up,” Mr. McHenry replied, eliciting gasps from the audience. “This is not the case.”
He claims that she some strange sense of entitlement, well Mr. Closet case Henry, what about you and the rest of the GOP boys… Just another self loathing closet case whom got caught in a lie and try to place the blame somewhere or on someone else.
However one Congressman did come to her aid,
As Mr. McHenry and Ms. Warren traded accusations, a senior Democrat, Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland, tried to smooth things over. “Mr. Chairman,” he said, “I’m trying to be cordial here — you just accused the lady of lying. You need to clear this up with your staff.”

Rev Barber at the Stop ID Voter Rally

This was the first time I heard him speak publicly and I was amaze. He is a great speaker, and force to be reckon with..
Love his statement about discrimination, take many forms.. and the Voter Id Act one was of those forms..
Many of this afternoon’s opponents delivered variations on that theme, including state NAACP President Rev. William Barber. “It is ridiculous, it is regressive, it is wrong, and it is a political form of racism and classism,” Barber told the committee. “We need to stop this foolishness in the People’s House and work on jobs and education and the things that really matter.”

What a Douche Bag

The  42,000 to 45,000 North Carolinians cut off from  their extended unemployment benefits since April 16 will have to wait longer, if GOP Senate Leader Phil Berger’s move to fix the stalemate is hinged to the state budget process.

Berger, in a press conference this morning, said the restoring the benefits (which are funded solely through federal sources) would have to wait and become part of the new state budget, which is supposed to take effect on July 1 if it manages to pass it time.

“Whenever it is approved, it will be retroactive,” he said.

Yes this Douche Bag and others are holding federal $$$ for unemployment as their ace in the hold to force the Governor to do what they want. I guess since they are not about to lose their homes and livelihood why would these douche bag care.

To help with the budget crisis, all members of the NCGA should take a 30% pay cut, their should miss it,with all the under the table money they get from Lobbyist to pass bills they want..
this is so rich,
Today, Berger again tried to shift blame to Perdue, a Democrat, when he responded to questions from reporters about why GOP legislators had worked out a recent compromise on the State Health Plan, and not done the same with  restoring the unemployment benefits.
Bev Perdue claims she will sign a clean bill if she is given one, but no matter how many the House and Senate Democrats tried to move forward they are block by those closet bigots and racists in both houses call Republicans….

NAACP leader Barber arrested in legislature

RALEIGH -- The Rev. William Barber, president of the North Carolina branch of the NAACP, and six others arrested during Tuesday's session of the N.C. House decided to spend the night in the Wake County jail.

As he was being taken into custody, Barber said they were protesting the "extreme, draconian" budgets proposed by legislative Republicans. Both the proposed House and Senate spending plans would make deep cuts to nearly every area of state government, especially education and social programs.

Each of those arrested with Rev Barber was charge with two misdemeanors, one for disorderly conduct and trespassing, which I will never understand this charge since he was on public property which was and is open to the public by law..

Total bond for all those arrested was $12,500, which average out to $1785 person.

565Its true that I have never personally met Rev Barber, I can say that I believe him more then I will ever believe Tillis. Yes, Tillis claim that Barber cancel their meeting, I bet if anything it was the other way around.

Rev Barber and group will hold a meeting tentatively scheduled this morning about 9:30 am  at the Martin Street Baptist Church in Downtown Raleigh..

The NC Republicans got control of the NCGA thru lies which are not unusual at all. They Claim they were for jobs creation, yet no jobs have been created, but many have, and will be lost by their actions.

One could say to be a Republican is like being a KKK member the only different is they don’t wear the white sheets..

David LaMotte tells why he is in Jail today

lamotte_hat-300x199

See is note why he was taken to jail today click here.

This guys doesn’t mind go to jail for what is right and just..

The point of getting arrested, in this case, for me, is to simply call attention to what is going on Jones Street. I think the vast majority of North Carolinians are good people and people of conscience, and would not stand for what is happening there if they were aware of it. I believe that many of the people who voted for the current leadership would also not stand for these actions, but were manipulated by fear into supporting a radical faction which is now betraying the very people who put them in office. Of course, North Carolinians are also busy people who are struggling with issues that occupy their time and attention and may keep them from being fully informed.

This is a stand up type of guy..

Douche Bag of the Day.

whom had Rev. Barber of the NAACP removed and arrest today in Raleigh..

NAACP President arrested after protest in House gallery

Here’s the quick report from the Associated Press:

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina General Assembly police arrested six people after a group began chanting in the gallery of the state House minutes before the start of a civil rights rally.

Among the people escorted by police Tuesday were the Rev. William Barber, president of the state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and second vice president the Rev. Curtis Gatewood. The association had scheduled a protest for the Legislative Building auditorium because its leaders accuse the new Republican leadership of harming the poor and minority groups.

Barber said House Speaker Thom Tillis has refused to meet with him. Tillis said on the House floor that Barber's group had canceled the meeting.

It wasn't immediately clear if they would be charged in connection with the protest.

Racist Tricks of Extreme Ultra-Conservative Republican Tea Party

RE-SEGREGATE THE BLACK VOTE
Racist Tricks of Extreme Ultra-Conservative Republican Tea Party
Politicians Exposed

"The extreme right-wing, ultra-conservative tea party that has apparently captured the North Carolina Republican Party has gotten so cocky, it now brags in public about its plans to use tactics rooted in racism and political segregation in order to gain and control political power," said Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President of the NC NAACP. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), recently bragged to the Washington media:

"It's politically probable that there will be a new minority influence district.  Republicans should pick up three seats under any fair and legal [redistricting] map. That is huge. No other state in the nation would gain as many Republican seats. This would be in a state that Barack Obama won in 2008 and where we have had a Democratic governor since 1992 - the longest such period in the nation. A 9-4 [Republican majority] delegation is pretty good and would attempt to avoid the risk of a bad year for Republicans. Clearly, Reps. Kissell and Miller are serving their final term."

"Let us look at the racist implications of McHenry's statement," Rev. Barber said. "When he says 'minority influence district' he means the tea party wants to draw new lines around Black areas, and lump us all into a third segregated voting District. Their aim is to remove progressive black voters out of surrounding areas, where we can create a strong voting majority with the growing number of white and brown progressives to get our anti-racism, anti-poverty agenda passed.  McHenry and the extreme ultra-conservative Tea Party Republicans want to defeat our progressive agenda, and take us back to their good old days.  John Tedesco wants to keep us in our 'neighborhoods.'  Ron Margiotta wants to keep 'the animals' in our 'cages.'  McHenry wants to resegregate our voting districts so the tea party can win 9 out of 13 of North Carolina's congressional seats and pass their regressive agenda.

"In 1898, the racist red shirts murdered scores of Black people who had created a fusion alliance with progressive white people in Wilmington and were building a world-class port city.

For the next 67 years, the red shirts, with their white friends in high places, disenfranchised one-third of Southern voters--all of us with black skins.  In 1965, after many courageous anti-racism fighters--Black and White and Jewish--were murdered, beaten and jailed, the Congress passed the Voting Rights Act.  This set the stage for the long struggle to insure the safety and protection of our voting rights.  Five years ago, Congress found that white supremacists still use voter suppression and dilution tricks, and re-authorized the VRA for another 25 years.  Now, the virtually all-white tea party ultra-conservative wing of the Republican Party is trying an end run of the VRA.  The NAACP will continue to fight to guarantee the right of every voter of color to cast her ballot against the tricks of the tea party and, at the same time, build a new progressive fusion alliance that can usher in a society of human beings of all colors, a beautiful diverse society--One North Carolina."

"We're sick and tired of the tea party's politics of yesterday. Black people can count too, Mr. McHenry. We understand your racist game. This is 2011. It's our agenda of tomorrow vs. your agenda of yesterday. The new fusion of Black, Brown and White voters who want to move North Carolina forward is forming. The Tea Party wants to segregate our Congressional Districts--three Black and 10 White.  We say No to Re-Segregating our Schools and our Voting Districts. Yes to One North Carolina."

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization.
