Will this happen here in NC??? NC Wake the Hell up

The ExxonMobil Pegasus tar sands pipeline spilled around 185,000 gallons of tar sands, undisclosed toxic chemicals and contaminated water in Arkansas yesterday.
Like many tar sands pipelines, Pegasus was actually an older pipeline which had its flow reversed. This is also the case for the Seaway pipeline in Texas and possible tar sands pipelines in New England.
And this wasn't even the only spill this week! Read more about the 30,000 tar sands spill in Minnesota here: http://www.tarsandsblockade.org/tar-sands-spill-train-derailment-minnesota/

NC NAACP AND PARTNERS HOLD NEWS CONFERENCE AND ANNOUNCEMENT TO RESPOND TO OMNIBUS VOTER SUPPRESSION BILLS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

28 March 2013

For More Information:        Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, President, 919-394-8137

Mrs. Amina J. Turner, Executive Director, 919-682-4700

For Media Assistance:        Rob Stephens, Field Secretary, 336-577-9335

RALEIGH - The North Carolina NAACP, partners and people of goodwill will hold a news conference on Friday to respond to new legislation intended to suppress voting in NC.

The news conference will take place at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, 1801 Hillsborough Street Raleigh, NC 27605 at 10:00AM on Friday, March 29, 2013.

The NC NAACP unequivocally rejects House Bill 451 and Senate Bill 421 - proposed voter suppression laws. North Carolina Republican Majority Leader Edgar Starnes of Caldwell County and Senator Jerry Tillman of Randolph County, respectively, filed the bills yesterday.

During the news conference the NC NAACP and partners will be announcing a Strategy Session and Assembly with partners, friends and all people of goodwill on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church starting at 6:00 PM.

This offensive legislation seeks to cut a week from Early Voting, eliminate Same Day Voter Registration and ban Sunday voting! Cutting, eliminating and banning elements of our State's great voting process is a continuation of regressive policies that the legislature insists on promoting to the detriment of all North Carolinians.

###

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its members throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, conducting voter mobilization and monitoring equal opportunity in the public and private sectors.

Kay Hagan finally supports Same Sex Marriage, WOW

From Under the Dome,

U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan said Wednesday that she supported the right of gay people to marry, saying “we should not tell people who they can love or who they can marry.''

Hagan announced her support as the US Supreme Court heard arguments on the issue.

“I know there are strong feelings on both sides, and I have a great deal of respect for their opinions,” Hagan said in an interview. “But after much thought and prayer on my part this is where I am today.''

This change only came after this piece on the Huff,

HuffPo slams the 10 Dem Senators who refuse to back gay marriage_2013-03-27

So Hagan gets slams on the Huff for not supporting SSM, then she comes out in support of, done like a true Politician..

Butterfield to Inform Constituents of Sequestration’s Impact, Next Week

WASHINGTON, DC — Next week, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) will speak with multiple groups to discuss the impact of sequestration on the First Congressional District and applaud environmental preservation efforts in the state.

On Monday, Butterfield will travel to Kinston to speak to the students and staff of Sampson Alternative School.  While there he will discuss sequestration and the effects it will have on education.  Later in the day, Congressman Butterfield will tour AAR Cargo Systems Corp and meet with its management on how the sequester will impact their business.  AAR Cargo Systems designs and manufactures in-craft cargo loading systems for commercial, military, and humanitarian relief operations.

On Tuesday, Butterfield will participate in a town hall meeting hosted by the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC).  During the town hall, Edgecombe and Nash counties residents will have the chance to ask Congressman Butterfield questions on federal budget cuts, efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and the impact on Medicaid following Governor McCrory’s decision to not expand the safety net program, among other issues.

On Wednesday, Butterfield will announce a $425,000 grant to The Roanoke Center to support sustainable forestry initiatives.  The grant will provide opportunities for farmers to learn sustainable practices of cultivating timber underbrush for sale without having to remove trees.  The award will benefit 30 farmers throughout Bertie, Gates, Halifax, Hertford and Northampton counties.

*No Speeches, No Anger, No Disrespect; Just Love*

David Mixner is a mentor and hero. When he asks for something, you know its coming from the most principled of places and from love. Come join us for this peaceful vigil in support of love and equality on the eve of the Supreme Court considering marriage equality. - Peter
From David Mixner:
The week of March 24 will be a historic week for the LGBT community, family and friends. For two days on that week, the United States Supreme Court is hearing arguments on both the DOMA and Proposition 8 cases. Rarely has a time called for dignified reflections and 'giving witness' to the moment.
Not acknowledging the importance of those hearings in our lives is unacceptable. All over America at sunset either on Sunday March 24 or Monday, March 25 there will be vigils, visits to Congressional offices and editorial boards, LGBT couples seeking marriage licenses and even some getting arrested.
Show up and be counted somewhere in America. Just do it.
On Sunday evening (March 24) at 7:00PM, I will be taking a candle to Times Square - the window to the world and standing silently for one hour to give witness. I will be standing behind the half price ticket booth. There will be no speeches (although music is always welcomed) and no anger.
Have zero idea if it will be just me standing alone with my candle or just me and a few friends.
However, I am inviting you to come and stand with me to give witness to the nation and the world how important that week will be for LGBT American obtaining freedom and equality.
If the spirit moves you and you in New York City come on down to Times Square with your candle, your determination to fully equal and spend an hour with me.
Much love and peace.

From Progress North Carolina Facebook page

Only a bail bondsman (Justin Burr) and failed real estate developer (Mike Hager) could come up with a bill this stupid: eliminating the requirement that district court judges be lawyers. But don't waste your time telling these two yahoos what you think. We suggest going straight to their boss and letting him know that this bill may well be the dumbest idea proposed yet: Thom Tillis, Speaker of the NC House 919-733-3451 - or - Thom.Tillis@ncleg.net. Please Like and Share. The bill's sponsors deserve to be soundly embarrassed for even thinking this idea was in any way acceptable. For more on the bill see: http://bit.ly/YqNfhK

ACLU Sends letter to a Southern CA school

The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Southern California claims administrators at Sultana High School are bullying students in an 11-page letter that threatens legal action. [Read the full letter below.]

Tony Perkins Slams Madonna and make a shocking statement too

225px-Tony_Perkins_1"The same Madonna with song titles that couldn't be read aloud on network television, even invoked Christ. 'It's so absurd. What did Jesus teach? Love your neighbor as yourself.' It has always amazed me how people who have done everything possible to push God and His standard from our country feel free to invoke this passage of scripture. It only works when they insert their definition of  'love' not the biblical definition of love. In this conflict of values, Madonna is the face of the other side. As a mom or dad, whose moral compass would you want your kids to follow: a performer who strips on stage (when she isn't bashing the military) or an organization devoted to public service and character development?" - Hate group leader Tony Perkins, via press release.

Really, Tony, you don’t event practice that, Cause you surely don’t love your neighbor as yourself, wait you do, you hate everyone, which means you hate yourself. Are you in the Closet??

Linda Harvey, claims that Gay Identity is a Delusion,

well Linda have a brain is a delusion too, but that’s a different story to be told.

"Every person out there who claims a 'gay' identity has the ability to get married in Ohio or anywhere else now. He or she can marry someone of the opposite sex, because that’s what marriage is and because a 'gay; identity is a delusion. Two men, no matter how sincere they feel, or two women, will never be a marriage. The person who believes this disorder is 'who he is,' as apparently [Sen. Rob] Portman’s son does, has tragically internalized a lie. His son needs to hear the hope of change and the stories of the thousands of former homosexuals in this country. But his father is apparently not going to tell him. How sad!"

Really, Linda, you must have one very sad life..

WTF: Joe Biden Staffer to Journalist, you must Delete that Photo

From Photography isn’t a Crime,

A Joe Biden staff member ordered a student journalist to delete his photos in a university-sponsored event at a Maryland college, prompting the vice president’s press secretary to issue an apology.

But only after dean of the journalism program fired off a letter in protest.

The staffer, Dana Rosenzweig, walked up to the student and ordered him to delete his photos off his iPhone because he had been sitting in a “non-press seating area,” giving him an “unfair advantage over other members of the press” who apparently had a more restrictive vantage point to take their shots.

Really, another person in Washington who don’t know or understand the Constitution of the US.

Marsha Blackburn the racist bigot of Tennessee

blackburnRep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) on Monday openly admitted that she opposed the latest reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) because it included protections for LGBT, Native American, and undocumented victims of domestic violence.

Yes she think the VAWA is only for Straight white women only. She doesn’t care if Black, Latino or native American women are abuses, and if they are lesbians then they get what they deserve.

On MSNBC, Blackburn pointed out that the latest iteration of the law protects “different groups” and thus dilutes funding for straight, non-Native American women with the proper documentation:

When you start to make this about other things it becomes an “against violence act” and not a targeted focus act… I didn’t like the way it was expanded to include other different groups. What you need is something that is focused specifically to help the shelters and to help out law enforcement, who is trying to work with the crimes that have been committed against women and helping them to stand up.

This is a racist that would make the KKK or Nazi’s happy to have on their side.

Who knows maybe one day Charles Blackburn will beat the hell out of her in front of her daughter Mary, while telling their son Chad that women are nothing at all, that they don’t deserve protection under the law, that they are trash.. After all they live Tennessee, and she is from Mississippi.

Bill Clinton Flip Flop on DOMA

clintondoma-300x300Yes, after signing this bill into law 17 years, he now say it tell for it to be over turn. Has he seen the light at the end of his political tunnel, one can only hope.

”When I signed the bill, I included a statement with the admonition that “enactment of this legislation should not, despite the fierce and at times divisive rhetoric surrounding it, be understood to provide an excuse for discrimination.” Reading those words today, I know now that, even worse than providing an excuse for discrimination, the law is itself discriminatory. It should be overturned.

We are still a young country, and many of our landmark civil rights decisions are fresh enough that the voices of their champions still echo, even as the world that preceded them becomes less and less familiar. We have yet to celebrate the centennial of the 19th Amendment, but a society that denied women the vote would seem to us now not unusual or old-fashioned but alien. I believe that in 2013 DOMA and opposition to marriage equality are vestiges of just such an unfamiliar society.

Americans have been at this sort of a crossroads often enough to recognize the right path. We understand that, while our laws may at times lag behind our best natures, in the end they catch up to our core values. One hundred fifty years ago, in the midst of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln concluded a message to Congress by posing the very question we face today: “It is not ‘Can any of us imagine better?’ but ‘Can we all do better?’?”

The answer is of course and always yes. In that spirit, I join with the Obama administration, the petitioner Edith Windsor, and the many other dedicated men and women who have engaged in this struggle for decades in urging the Supreme Court to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act.”
