North Carolina NAACP Joins with Environmental Justice Partners Call on Gov. Pat McCrory and Duke Energy to Come Clean on Coal Ash

RALEIGH - Toxic coal ash from one of Duke Energy's 32 coal-ash lagoons in North Carolina has poisoned the Dan River, coating the riverbed with sludge and threatening wildlife and drinking water alike. The arsenic-laced coal ash ponds, like many other heavily polluted sites, disproportionately affect poor and minority communities across our state who have less resources to oppose them. Now the North Carolina NAACP and its environmental partners in the Forward Together Moral Movement have declared that enough is enough - it is the time to finally come clean.

 

 Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, president of the NC NAACP, will join speakers from the Forward Together coalition partners at a rally and press conference today outside the Governor's Mansion in Raleigh to call for Gov. McCrory and his administration to meaningfully demonstrate their commitment to our environment, to our health and to transparent government.
