For the first time in over 100 years, Republicans have control of the General Assembly in North Carolina. As expected, the liberals in our state are not going down without a fight. Our Democratic Governor and her liberal allies are fully committed to returning to their status quo of taxing and spending.
In fact, Gov. Perdue sent a letter to the GOP Leadership asking for us to continue the “temporary” billion dollar tax hike they passed in 2009, or, “find other revenue sources” which you and I know is liberal code for new taxes.
Republicans in the General Assembly held firm to their campaign promises and passed a fact-based budget that reduced the size of government and eliminated those “temporary” taxes that the Democrats love so much. As expected, Gov. Perdue vetoed the bill.
The regular Session ended this past Friday and with it, Republican Leaders in both Chambers along with five sensible Democrats in the State House were able to override her veto and pass a budget that works to get our state back on track. We made promises to the citizens of North Carolina and our promises were kept.
Along with passing the budget that protects education (contrary to the media and Democrats fear mongering) and helps small business hire new employees, Republicans in the General Assembly also passed a number of other key legislative priorities:
- Eliminated the cap on Charter Schools
- Protected the right’s of homeowners against intruders (Castle Doctrine)
- Passed honest election reform (requires a person produce a photo id when voting)
- Passed the Health Care Freedom Act (freedom against federal health mandates)
- Kept our state a right-to-work state
- Reduced the regulatory burden on business
- Passed the Eminent Domain constitutional amendment
- Passed meaningful forced annexation reform
- Ended pay-to-play politics by limiting campaign contributions from state vendors
As you can see, it has been a productive legislative session under Republican leadership. We have concluded the regular session in record time saving MILLIONS in taxpayers' dollars. However, Obama, Perdue and all their liberal friends are steadfast in their commitment to undo all of the hard work we have done. That is why I am writing you today.
We need your help!
For a reoccurring monthly or one time contribution of just $20.12, you can help Republicans in the State House continue the good work they have started.
