Just when did Dan Savage become a part of GetEqual??
This is how I found out about this. (photo credit out.com) also link are not active.
Can someone tell me when this happen. I must have been asleep at the keyboard once again and miss this major event.. I love what GetEqual does and I’m trying to start a group here in Eastern NC..
I have my own personal feeling about Dan, which I won’t go into here. Also its bad enough that one board member has a very question past and current actions that should be address. However having Dan a spoke person for GetEqual
Yesterday, I went to the White House Pride Reception in DC. My husband wanted to go, but the invite was in my name (+1), so he couldn't go if I didn't go. So I went—because Terry's the boss. But I was aware, as we headed to the White House, that we are still second-class citizens in this country.
So while mingling with folks at the White House, I shook a lot of hands — and everyone who shook my hand saw the "Evolve Already" pin I was wearing on my shirt... even the Vice President of the United States.
When I started the "It Gets Better Project" last September, I was a sex columnist with a penchant for stirring up trouble (Google "Rick Santorum" for an example of my past activism). Troublemaking and troublemakers have always played a big role in creating change. And as far as troublemaking and making change go, GetEQUAL is among the best.
Help GetEQUAL out here: www.getequal.org/donate.
We've seen some progress on our issues under the Obama administration—but the pace of progress didn't pick up until activists from GetEQUAL started chaining themselves to fences, getting arrested at hearings, and interrupting business-as-usual speeches from our allies. Once GetEQUAL started inspiring us to act like a civil rights movement again—to take action like a civil rights movement—we started making real gains.
I'm writing to ask you to donate to GetEQUAL right now, so that they can keep up the pressure on people who can really make a difference in the lives of LGBT folks -- including the youth Terry and I created the "It Gets Better Project" to reach. Achieving our full civil equality is one of the ways we can make it better for them and supporting GetEQUAL brings that day closer.
While groups like GetEQUAL exert the most pressure for change, donors tend to give to groups that "go along" and value access over progress. I, for one, want GetEQUAL to keep up the pressure, and they can't do it without your support.
So just do it. Give a bit. Whether it's $25 or $50 or $100, every little bit helps to keep fighting for our full equality.

Thanks,
Dan Savage
