Religious from all over the state will meet at the NCGA Today to oppose House bill 615 that would eliminate the Racial Justice Act.
The Racial Justice Act give Death row prisoners a chance to challenge their convictions on the basis of racial bias.
Seth Edwards of the state Conference of DA’s support the repeal of the RJA,
"Now ladies and gentlemen, when a case is declared capital, prosecutors do not see color," he said. "We see brutal killings. I am personally offended when someone alleges that I see color in any case, not just a death penalty case."
Now we know that this is Lie, to prove this just look at all those on death row. Africa-American are more likely to get a death sentence fast then Whites, also those whom are poor as well. Rich White males hardly ever get the Death penalty, unless their crime is so outrageous, or involve a high political official.
Gov. Bev Perdue signed the bill into law in August of 2009 that prohibits race to determine whether someone faces the death penalty.
"I have always been a supporter of death penalty, but I have always believed it must be carried out fairly,” Perdue said in a news release. “The Racial Justice Act ensures that when North Carolina hands down our state’s harshest punishment to our most heinous criminals – the decision is based on the facts and the law, not racial prejudice.”
Now the Republican Control House and Senate wants to over turn this bill.
