Shades of Pride presents EXPRESS YOURSELF!

- the theme for the 4th annual Pride weekend, July 25 - 28, 2013 to be held at the Durham Convention Center, Durham, NC.
We need to hear from you! The Founding Board Members of Shades of Pride first met in the Lifestyle Center of Whole Foods on November 9th, 2009 and in January, 2010, Shades of Pride was incorporated. Six months later, the agency delivered the inaugural Pride weekend at the Raleigh Marriott Crabtree Valley. The first event was such a success, and the experiences so welcoming that we made this host hotel our home for 2011 and 2012. For 2013, we will deliver a new experience - Durham, NC and the MANY things that this great city has to offer!

Durham, the town born of a railroad depot rebuffed elsewhere and nurtured by an industry launched in the wreckage of war has evolved into a diverse city where remembering those historical roots has become a signature of civic pride. Durham today encompasses much of The Research Triangle Park – the leading and largest high technology research and science park in North America; Durham has gained international recognition for its food scene, and it preserves its natural beauty through dozens of parks, waterways, state recreation areas, and more. As a colorful, creative, and welcoming community, Durham is now known as the place where great things happen (Durham Preservation, 2012).

We wish to share and invite you to partake of the following opportunities:

Shades of Pride is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency formed to create opportunities to acknowledge, celebrate and include the diversity of North Carolina’s minority LGBTQ community through events open to all. The agency also works to deliver programs that increase awareness, prevention and control of HIV/AIDS, diabetes, breast and prostate cancer and other health disparities affecting all minority populations.
We believe that the effective delivery of these objectives relies on collaboration with all communities, representatives of public and private sectors and welcome partnerships in this effort.
Sincerely and with deepest gratitude,
Akil
