Willie D. Pilkington sent out a plea for public and organizational civility to Ian and Angel and Cc’ed to community leaders:

Ian & Angel,

Have you two stopped throwing rocks at one another over who does what and who speaks to what and who approves of what, etc., etc.; concerning political and educational activities in North Carolina?

What I and, I believe, everyone else wants, no matter their organizational affiliation, is for all our GLBT organizations, community spokespersons and visible leaders, to cooperate and not attempt to rule over or run off or accuse each other. There is too much to be done and there are many tactics that need to be conducted all concerning true and complete EQUALITY for GLBT people. If your energy over the last several weeks had been focused on who both of you are truly working for, (GLBT People), and not this childish approach to who is the more correct and knowledgeable, then there could have been some real significant educational gains made for the public to hear as to the plight of what is taking place in our North Carolina Legislature … we all need to focus on how good, hardworking GLBT residents in North Carolina are being harmed by the actions of our Legislature. We need to have the public clearly see how our Legislature, through its power to enact laws and propose legislation, is ruining good people’s lives. We need to point out the hate in them not the hate or disdain we have for each other.

There has already been to many attempts over the years to ostracize people and keep individuals from being directly involved in the continuing struggle to secure our EQUALITY … now is the time to stop and direct all our organizations to stop turning people away from involvement, no matter their status in life or activities. I ask that both of you embrace one another, even if you do not totally agree on each other’s efforts. The public, and that includes the press as well as the Boards and Volunteers of both your organizations, need to see you two publically agree to work more closely together no matter what. ALL OU FUTURES ARE BEING AFFECTED BY YOUR ACTIONS. The Republican and the Conservative Religious folks, who already have their supporters geared up, were salivating over your public display of bickering over who is right and who is wrong … If we all do not immediately start collaborating toward and cooperatively start developing some high end mass public education efforts across this State to allow our neighbors, friends and co-workers to see that we as GLBT people are truly suffering and being kept from full participation in the life of our individual communities and State, because our Legislators are passing laws and proposing laws from their ignorance and sense of hate; then we all lose together, no matter our original good intentions.

The real reason I contacted both of you and everyone else in this email send at the same time is to send this YouTube video of a MSNBC “Hardball’ segment discussing Marriage Equality support ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDmA03_RnqA&feature=player_embedded .

This video discussion, in my opinion, should be seen by everyone in North Carolina and that includes all Legislators, both Republican and Democrat.

Ian, I know you are on your way out, but I hope you understand the message I am sending to you above, Equality North Carolina needs to start embracing other people and organizations, you are not in this alone and ENC does not have the only thoughts that need to be heard and acted toward. Your term of public service comes on the heels of many other individuals and organizations before you and hopefully there will be many more people who serve after your time is up. You came along when times were changing and evolving, do not go out with a bitter feeling left in our total community over involvement.

NOTE: If some of you do not like the message I have written in this email, then I am sorry for that. Please only respond, if at all, with information as to how to move positively forward.

Your Community friend.

Willie D. Pilkington
