ORANGE COUNTY, NC (May 19, 2014)— The Orange County Board of Commissioners announces the selection of Bonnie Hammersley as the next Orange County Manager starting June 25, 2014.

As County Manager, Hammersley will lead the day-to-day operations of Orange County Government, interacting with the Board of County Commissioners, county departments and the general public. She will report directly to the Board of Commissioners.

Hammersley has served for 26 years in county government, including most recently as County Administrator for Muskegon County, Michigan. She was the first female to lead Muskegon County starting in 2009. Prior to that, she spent 21 years working with Dane County, Wisconsin.

Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin.

Barry Jacobs, Chair of the Orange County Board of Commissioners, commented on the pending arrival of the new manager. “We’re very pleased Bonnie Hammersley is coming to Orange County as our new manager. Ms. Hammersley possesses impressive experience, has worked in a progressive community, and brings a striking combination of competence, confidence, and thoroughness. She is a good listener and by all accounts a hard worker and an adept practitioner of the collaborative skills we value,” Jacobs said.

Over 50 applicants from 15 states expressed interest in the position.

Hammersley is looking forward to being part of Orange County. “Orange County offers a wonderful quality of life, political stability and the community aggressively addresses the issues in a progressive and proactive manner. This is a great professional opportunity,” Hammersley said.

Michael Talbert is currently serving as Interim County Manager until his retirement on June 30, 2014.

The official vote on the appointment of the County Manager will occur at the Orange County Board of Commissioners’ Budget Public Hearing on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Department of Social Services, Hillsborough Commons, 113 Mayo St., Hillsborough, starting at 7:00 p.m.

Orange County will host a “meet and greet” on Friday, May 23, 2014 to offer the public an opportunity to meet Hammersley. The event will be held at the Link Government Services Center, 200 South Cameron Street in Hillsborough, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
