ORANGE COUNTY COOPERATIVE EXTENSION INVITES PUBLIC

TO ESTATE PLANNING WORKSHOPS

ORANGE COUNTY, NC (May 16, 2014)—Orange County Cooperative Extension and the Orange County Department on Aging invite the public to take advantage of free estate planning workshops being conducted by two local attorneys. The registration deadline is on Wednesday, June 4.

When a North Carolina resident dies without a will, the state determines how their property will be distributed.  Parents of minor children should have a plan in place for their child’s care if something happens to them. 

The two-part series of workshops on Estate Planning will address these topics and the following issues: 

Chapel Hill Workshops

Seymour Center, 2551 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill

Wednesday, June 18, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday, June 25, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Presenter Steve Lackey, Attorney-at-Law will cover the following topics:

June 18 – Who's in Charge?

Topics: Financial Powers of Attorney, Retirement Benefits, Health Care Powers of Attorney, Long Term Health Care, and Living Wills

June 25 – Transferring Property by Gift, During Life and Beyond
Topics: Lifetime Gifts, Wills, Trusts, Joint Property, Beneficiary Designations, and Transfer Taxes

Hillsborough Workshops

Presenter Beth Tillman, Attorney-at-Law will cover the following topics:
