Tired of waiting for #NCGA GOP to do the right thing, Gov. restores benefits for the unemployed. http://bit.ly/jjD7dq – from the NCGovoffice twitter account
Gov. Perdue today signed Executive Order 93, clearing the way for the extension of federal unemployment insurance benefits to some 47,000 North Carolinians.
Below is a statement from the governor.
“For weeks, I have been trying to work with the Republican legislative leaders to get them to do the right thing: send me a clean bill to extend the unemployment benefits for 47,000 North Carolinians who have lost their jobs. But instead of acting responsibly on this matter, the Republican legislature has repeatedly refused to send me such a bill. Instead, they have persistently attempted to use our unemployed workers as hostages by tying the extension of their benefits to my acceptance of budget bills that would inflict severe and unnecessary cuts to our schools and other essential programs.
Meanwhile, thousands of North Carolina families are running out of money and options. I hear from them all over the state. They visit my website and Facebook page to beg for help.
Well you know this has tick the GOP Leaders in NCGA off, She has stood up the Boy’s club, she has had enough of their petty games, and holding the unemployed of NC as hostages in their budget games..
Thom Tillis press conference at 1:30pm today will mostly doubly be about this. I’m sure he will claim that she doesn’t have the power to make sure a decision.

If the Gov could have just signed an executive order to extend unemployment benefits, why didn't she do that a month ago? She forgot? #NCGA, (for this one I bet she was researching to see if she could do this. if it was in her power to do.)(—my personal thought on the matter)
