McCrory: Stop Poor-Mouthing North Carolina

RALEIGH, NC - North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman David Parker today blasted Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory for “continually talking down North Carolina as a place to do business in order to score cheap political points.”

“McCrory thinks the way he can become governor is by poor-mouthing North Carolina’s economy.  McCrory is either unaware, or else he chooses to ignore the reams of data showing that North Carolina continues to be a great place to do business and locate a company.  All he’s doing is undermining the state’s business recruitment efforts and telling business leaders to make their investments somewhere else,” said Parker.

Parker pointed out that in its most recent rankings, Site Selection magazine, ranked North Carolina as the #1 best business climate in the nation.  In addition, Chief Executive magazine ranked North Carolina as the #2 best state for business in 2011, and CNBC ranked North Carolina #3 in its America’s Top States for Business survey in June 2011.

“The entire nation continues to suffer economically and we all know we need more jobs.  If McCrory cared about creating jobs in North Carolina as much as he cared about trying to win an election, he’d help attract business investment here by telling the truth about what a great state we are, rather than always talking us down,” Parker said.  “It is really unhelpful when a politician puts his own political future over what’s best for working families in this state.”

Parker also pointed to the state’s AAA bond rating and government belt-tightening as further indications of Governor Perdue’s strong fiscal management.  He noted that a recent review by Moody’s put many of North Carolina’s neighboring states under a credit watch while reaffirming North Carolina’s AAA rating.  North Carolina is one of the only seven states that have earned the top ranking from all three of the rating agencies.

“The Republican strategy of stalling the economy for their own political advantage has to stop.”
