(Official portrait of Congressman Eric Cantor.) |
Despite the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene this weekend, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today stood by his call that no more money be allocated for disaster relief unless it is offset by spending cuts elsewhere. The Washington Post reported this morning that FEMA will need more money than it currently has to deal with the storm’s aftermath and is already diverting funds from other recent disasters to deal with the hurricane, but Cantor’s comments suggest Republicans won’t authorize more funds without a fight. Why didn’t you take a stand like this when dumb ass Bush was in office, during Katrina?? Well…
Sorry, folks in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th districts which include Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and all of the Eastern Shore are all Republican districts. All are in the path or within tropical storm strength winds. Areas of Virginia Beach are under mandatory evacuations. If you need FEMA help you just might not be able too..
Cantor was around long enough to have approved a lot of that runaway money spending. Most of Congress has been around long enough, but pretend they were not. So they can blame the First African-American President.
After Katrina, under Bush, GOP Congress approved $81.5 billion in relief funds without any spending cuts thkpr.gs/nnvs3K
