Tillis on Voter ID–Veto

Friends and Neighbors,

Yesterday afternoon, Governor Perdue VETOed the VOTER ID bill passed by the North Carolina House and Senate early in June.  The legislation will simply require anyone who shows up at a polling location to provide a valid government-issued ID:  a driver's license, student ID, passport or other ID.  If a voter does not have an ID, the legislation provides for the issuance of a free ID at a DMV or Board of Elections office.

Some 29 states have VOTER ID laws of varying degrees.  North Carolina is one of a minority of states that has NO VOTER ID requirement at all.  For more information about VOTER ID laws across the US CLICK this link

Please help us restore confidence in our elections process and help us convince enough legislators to vote for a VETO override.  Contact your local legislator and encourage others to join us.  CLICK this link to send an email or call your Representative or any other you have time to call.  You can count on republican members supporting the override so there is no need to call them (except to say thanks).  You can focus on democrat members (party indicated in first column).  Just click on the member name and you will see their office phone and email info.  Please be respectful and simply ask them to join our efforts to restore confidence in North Carolina elections by voting for the VETO OVERRIDE.

Be on the lookout for a notice announcing a rally in Raleigh on the day we bring up the VETO OVERRIDE vote.

Warm Regards,  Thom T.
