NC Democratic Party's weekly “Priority Watch”

The media can see right through it. The Republicans definitely know about it. And even a North Carolina-based conservative group (NC Free Enterprise Foundation) says that "Proposed Congressional Map Strongly Favors GOP.

Despite the GOP pledge of being fair and open, the proposed Congressional map insulates Republican candidates.  And instead of voters choosing their representatives, the Republicans have crafted a map that demonstrates representatives choosing their voters.

The Republicans will tell you that the map is 'competitive', but the facts say otherwise.  Currently, the congressional delegation is 7 Democrats and 6 Republicans; while the new map aims at increasing Republican seats to 10, leaving Democrats with only 3.

Further, the geographic, economic and cultural communities of interest are ignored.  They have created African American majority areas in Districts 1 and 12.  The proposed District 12 clearly shows packing of African-American voters.  Why were white voters removed from the district and replaced with African-American voters?

All in all, these districts are NOT 'fair and legal' nor are they 'competitive'.  The Republicans are not fooling anyone.
