NCDP Executive Director- GOP Smear Spam: We read it so you don't have to.

Ever wonder how your Republican neighbors stay on top of the most current GOP lies about Barack Obama and Bev Perdue? They come packaged in handy, bullet-point lists from the state GOP to rattle off at your neighborhood Fourth of July block party.

This year’s GOP Fun Fourth “Cheat Sheet” lays our current economic woes at the President’s feet – while conveniently forgetting how George W. Bush blew through the surplus and did little to nothing while the economy tanked.

Here’s a refresher on the Bush years for your amnesiac Republican neighbor:

  • Irresponsible and failed Republican economic policies led to the worst recession in a generation
  • Unemployment went up in North Carolina by 27 percent.
  • Gas prices shot up by 221 percent.
  • More children lived at or below poverty level during the Bush years as child poverty skyrocked by 21 percent.
  • More than 1.4 million people had no access to health care because they were uninsured.

President Obama and Democrats at every level work to strengthen our economy by:

  • Protecting public education.
  • Making important investments in a clean energy economy that will support job creation and new 21st century industries.
  • Extending tax cuts for working families.
  • Cutting payroll taxes.
  • Creating new incentives to spur small business hiring.

Here at home, it's clear that the GOP majority is bitter about Bev Perdue's rising approval ratings after she vetoed their attacks on teacher jobs, women's rights, voting rights and patients rights last month.

The NC GOP just can’t seem to stand the fact that North Carolina remains at the top of every national list for new business recruitment and relocation, including:

  • 1st for business, according to Site Selection magazine.
  • 2nd in the nation for job creation (September 2009 to September 2010)
  • 3rd best state for business in America, according to Forbes.
  • 5th in the nation for personal income growth since June 2009.
  • 30,000 new jobs promised by companies moving to or expanding in North Carolina.
  • 10 percent increase in corporate profits.

Why is it so hard for your Republican neighbor to give credit where credit is due?  Well, if he's been reading his worthless GOP spam, he probably just doesn't have the facts.

Just remind your neighbor of Republican accomplishments this session. That hot dog you're holding costs half a cent less than it did last week.  Meanwhile, the sales tax the GOP cut means that nearly 10,000 educators will lose their jobs because Republicans didn’t believe our children and our state’s future was worth a penny. Congratulations.

Armed with the truth, you can bring your own fireworks to the Fourth of July picnic. Have fun. Wear sunscreen. And delete GOP spam
